Best Song about Unrequited Love- Discuss

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

"Sparky's Dream"

If she lived in space, man
I'd build a plane
Out of luck so beam me up
To hear her talking again

She painted pictures
That never dried
Always tried to keep the feeling alive

Need a crystal ball to see her in the morning
And magic eyes to read between the lines.
I take a wrong direction
From a shooting star
In the love dimension
Fading fast from taking this too far

That summer feeling is gonna fly
Always try and keep the feeling inside

Need a crystal ball to see her in the morning
And magic eyes to read between the lines
I took a wrong direction
From a shooting star
In the love dimension
Fading fast from taking this to far

Need a magic ball to see her in the morning
And crystal eyes to read between the lines
Need a magic ball to see her in the morning
And crystal eyes to read between the lines
'I have reason to believe' he said, 'that one of you has been going out at night!'

A Dream Goes On Forever - Todd Rundgren

A million old soldiers will fade away
But a dream goes on forever
I'm left standing here, I've got nothing to say
All is silent within my dream

A thousand true loves will live and die
But a dream lives on forever
The days and the years will go streaking by
But the time has stopped in my dream

We all have our everyday hopes and fears
And you'll find no exception in me
But that doesn't get me through a sea of tears
Over life's biggest tragedy

You're so long ago and so far away
But my dream lives on forever
I guess I believe that I'll see you one day
For without it there is no dream

You're so far away and so long ago
But my dream goes on forever
And how much I loved you you'll never know
'Til you join me within my dream
"And when you start to think about death, you start to think about what's after it. And then you start hoping there is a God. For me, it's a frightening thought to go nowhere".

My head hangs a bit low to that one.... Sad before sun up is not a good way to begin a day ...but I started it..............

The Psychedelic Furs Get A Room

don't want order
it won't come
there's no why that it goes on
i was tied and i'm undone
i've got all that you don't want
you want order i want more
you want it all and
all of it's yours
you want shelter
i get a room
i get a room
my confusion leaves me cold
i've got nothing here to hold
all that's gold will never shine
it was nothing, nevermind
i want time, i want it now
my confusion's getting me down
you want shelter
i get a room
i get a room
what of yours is there to keep?
to be there when you sleep
i'm not here to tie your feet
hold a hand upon your sleeve
there's a nail to hang the wall
it pays to lose it all
a note to hind behind the door
i get a room
where you sleep, i lay awake
i saw every time you fake
i held on the hand that takes
and you hate it when i break
you want order
i want more
you want it all and
all of it's yours
you want shelter
i get a room
i get a room
i get a room
'I have reason to believe' he said, 'that one of you has been going out at night!'

This Mortal Coil's version of "Song To The Siren":

On the floating
Shipless oceans
I did all my best to smile

'Til your singing eyes and fingers
Drew me loving into your eyes

And you sang
"Sail to me - sail to me
Let me enfold you"

Here I am - here I am
Waiting to hold you

Did I dream
You dreamed about me?
Were you here
When I was full sail?

Now my foolish boat is leaning
Broken lovelorn on your rocks

For you sang
"Touch me not - touch me not - come back tomorrow"
Oh my heart - oh my heart
Shies from the sorrow

I'm as puzzled
As a newborn child
I'm as riddled
As the tide

Should I stand amid the breakers?
Or shall I lie with death my bride?

Hear me sing:
"Swim to me - swim to me - let me enfold you"
Here I am - here I am
Waiting to hold you

and Huun-Huur-Tu's (the throat singers from Tuva) "Saryglar" (Song Of Unrequited Love), here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GXNrs1dS94U

The video's a bit choppy, and their sound can take a bit of getting used to, but the song needs no translation...

Actually, for me, both songs really ought to be in that *other* thread. :von:

BSAUL - certainly not November Rain, but the bit on the video where Slash plays geetar outside an ickle church is funny as f**k :notworthy:

Here's one fact fans; they wanted that church for the video, but not where it was. So they paid for it to be dismantled and rebuilt in the middle of nowhere.

Oh yes - this is the most beautiful song.
I have thought of the video so many times over the years
Here it is (with Bulgarian subtitles apparently?)

Venn - Snowblind

Downwards you stand out of reach
One oversight, undermined
More than light, above the spectrum
More than chance could hope to find
Less is more, or so they say
But simple words will only bind
Your feelings to a lack of meaning
Rays of nothing intertwined

The glare intense a bright reflection
255 make me snowblind
When snowmelt floods the moral highground
Only tears are left behind

Your back I went in search of something
Up and over what I saw
Upwards from my past ideas
Though one in hand is worth two more
Or less than three, their lip-gloss blues
Their true dark colours seen before
This currency, these grains of sand
The blood money for she who saw

The glare intense a bright reflection
255 make me snowblind
When snowmelt floods the moral highground
Only tears are left behind

The line you drew across my heart
One witnessed by a painful gaze
Of someone who was somewhere else
Out of the fire, into the blaze
Of branding irons and "you saw nothing"
Hoping sometime to erase
The thought that this was something deeper
Something more than just a phase

The glare intense a bright reflection
255 make me snowblind
When snowmelt floods the moral highground
Only tears are left behind

The change immense a new direction
Here's the worst still I don't mind
As now it seems that all along
It wasn't me that was so blind

Tiamat - Best Friend Money Can Buy

we drank as much as we could
and she drank more than she should
we stumbled out of this cheap whiskey bar
and that is the story so far

guided by the dim streetlights
we walked through the black harbour night
no people, no passing car
well, that is the story so far

she thinks she smells the northland snow
northland snow
and she`s as glad as I to go
ay, to go
her very bolts are sick for shore
sick for shore
and I, I want it ten times more
ten times more-

she silenced her mouth when I asked for her name
and she asked me to please do the same
she said it's all written in the stars
and that is the story so far

but she whispered her name when I kissed her goodbye
her voice stained by whiskey and tar
she went back to where she belonged, and I
I went back to the bar

A song with a very happy ending ;D

So long now since I saw you last
I don’t think I’ve slept all
soft sweet kiss still burns and taunts me in the darkest hours
want you to hold me, hold me close
hide me like you did before

Couldn’t find you where you should be
Saw you outside in sunlight, watched the tears dry on your face
Stood in your shadow whilst you smiled and healed
held me, let go too soon,
walked away

It’s so very long since then
Time to put it all aside now that you’re gone without me
Time to sigh and lock a memory of a gentle touch
Outside the door of the thin glass shell
I hold so tight around me
I don't wanna live like I don't mind

The great Peter Hammil (of Van Der Graaf Generator infamy) wrote a whole album about the breakdown of a long term relationship called Over, my fave lyric is:
Been Alone So Long
Been alone so long
that I've forgotten what it's like
to feel somebody next to me
and hear her breathing peacefully
when I wake up at night.

Been alone so long
that I've forgotten what to say--
if I meet somebody who
might easily resemble you
I smile, but look away...
I look away.

Been alone so long
that I've forgotten what to do:
how to make the whole thing right
and how to help if she's uptight
and when to run and when to fight...
how to make her stay the night--
that's if I ever knew.

Been alone so long
that I've forgotten what it's like
to feel somebody next to me
and hear her breathing peacefully
when I wake up at night
wake up at night

sadly, it's not a great tune :|

I'm so tired, of playing
Playing with this bow and arrow
Gonna give my heart away
Leave it to the other girls to play
For I've been a temptress too long

Just. .

Give me a reason to love you
Give me a reason to be ee, a woman
I just wanna be a woman

From this time, unchained
We're all looking at a different picture
Thru this new frame of mind
A thousand flowers could bloom
Move over, and give us some room

Give me a reason to love you
Give me a reason to be ee, a woman
I just wanna be a woman

[INSTRUMENTAL]

So don't you stop, being a man
Just take a little look from our side when you can
Sow a little tenderness
No matter if you cry

Give me a reason to love you
Give me a reason to be ee, a woman
Its all I wanna be is all woman

For this is the beginning of forever and ever

Its time to move over... ...
Y quedo llorando, llorando, llorando, llorando por tu amor

Cheers SINsister, no worries

Zeno, the inner prog rocker is now 20 minutes into a flute solo, having completely forgotten that the song ever had lyrics or indeed even a beginning :innocent:

I just don't want to know about
The way the lamp lights up your room
Or the tabletop you're elbow's on
Or the wood you write and work upon
I just don't want to know about
Quiet evenings moving on...

Nights of reinventing lives
Unfinished stories, unsatisfied

The small scar on my hand's the same
You eased and took away the pain
But now I'm taking all the blame
For Wounds neither one of us could quell
And the Blood won't wash away so well...

I find myself in the street again
Beneath your window, in driving rain
Needing to see just for myself
What you could only tell to someone else
What you couldn't say to me yourself...

But I still want to know which way
Your window faces on the Day
Or the route you take to face the World
Or the way you're sleeping, sheets unfurled
You, and another, neatly curled
Around the Center, of what was my World...
