New Stooges song..."My Idea of Fun"

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

An excellent time not to have headphones to hand :(

Needless to say, it's been downloaded straight into the "Waiting [with baited breath...]" pile...

It's a bit sub par compared to the stuff on "Raw Power".

I always worry about reunions or albums after way long gaps - when they work they're great but sometimes the net result is making you dig out the old stuff.........

This one's been kicking around for a while now. They've been sneaking "my idea of fun" and "I'm fried" into their set.
The whole album was done in the old fashioned way. Set up in the studio, rehearse a song a few times & then simply recorded it live. The album's entirely live apart from two little bits on the vocals that Iggy f**ked up.
The Stooges were never meant to be refined just good old fashioned rock n roll. No widdly guitar solos, no deep lyrics, just take them for what they are.

And Raw Power wasn't really the proper Stooges, Iggy got James Williamson to play guitar and tried to find other musicians in London. Nobody was good enough so the got the Asheton brothers back, only making Ron play bass instead of guitar. That's why the current Stooges won't do anything from Raw Power.

But still quite enjoyable. 8)

BTW of course Raw Power isn't the "real" Stooges but it's a very damn fine record nonetheless. :von:

Not bad at all. A bit muddy, but that's the price of live recording.

Been listening to it some more. The chorus is catchy and I like the tune, but the line "this is the season for war with no reason" made me cringe a little.

I do have to say, Raw Power is (to me) the weakest of the three stooges albums. Not bad, but more ....er...typical rock?

check out the Complete Fun House Sessions if you get a chance. lots of out-takes, and you get to hear the songs over & over & over... it's very limited, but someone burned me lossless copies, since i'm not spending $300 on eBay.

I have it burned, the talking at the beginning (I think it's the beginning) is the best! And so many versions of so many great freakin' songs. By the way, does anyone know what Iggy is saying during the breakdown of T.V. eye? It sounds like "rabbit" or maybe "brother."

Listening to the new album now.

It's not Funhouse, The Stooges, or raw power. It's nearer Funhouse than Raw power but it's a bit more structured.
Back in the 60s they went in off their tits and recorded the songs they'd been playing live. This time they wrote songs for an album.
It's less shambolic than their earlier stuff but I suppose that's a given considering they're nearly 40 years older.
I don't think they were ever expected to top the first two albums but on first listen it sounds like it'll grow into a classic on it's own merits.

Iggy's lyrics/vocals do sound very uninspired.
All in all, a good cd to do housework/drive to, but I think Funhouse will always be my favorite.

I think it holds up quite well, everything considered.
Admittedly it's not an outright classic, but it's still a damn sight better than a lot of crap that gets released.

too soft for my likings and lacking any kick ass attitude.
Put their heads on f*cking pikes in front of the venue for all I care.
