Even Nemi is getting in on the act.........

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

I think these were unofficial translations from the original Norwegian - that might be why ?

I rarely say the "The" part in spoken English.

"Do you like The Sisters of Mercy?"

"Yes I am a fan of The Sisters"

On the other hand...

"Are you a Sisters of Mercy fan?"

"Yes, I go to every Sisters gig I can get to"

Is also acceptable.

But then again.

"The new album by Sisters of Mercy is good" is bad

Whereas

"The new Sisters of Mercy album is bad" is good.

Yes, thank you. It's a pet peeve of mine when people don't capitalise the "Of" in The Sisters Of Mercy

Consistency in capitalisation, please.

This sounds like those impossible sentences from old English grammar books. If Mr Brown had a plane, he would fly all over the world.
According to modern standards of teaching, which tend to be based on real-life situations, it should go like this:

"The new album by Sisters of Mercy appeared in my dream last night" is bad

Whereas

"The new Sisters of Mercy album will be released as soon as all the pigs on Earth pass their pilotage exam" is good.

Same here - I love the fact that big chunks of the population occasionally get black metal jokes and in-references with their journey to work. I've seen The Sisters, Mayhem, Burzum and Immortal mentioned up to now, and a few visual gags based on inverted crosses and corpsepaint

All things considered, Leonard Cohen never used 'the' on his sleeves I think. Neither do the Nuns order the name came from, as far as I can see. All academical anyway...
