THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.
A a record, unless its rare, will usually be cheaper than a CD. The reissue of FALAA costs £10+, while my gatefold vinyl version costs £5 AND it sounds nicer AND it looks nicer AND I can have it as MP3 sound for portability thanks to my friend with his USB vinyl player/ripper
an honest Q as I don't own one and still don't see the point, I have Radio 4

I've kinda got a foot in both camps - I have a vinyl deck but it's about 250 miles away as it never made the move north with me. All my Sisters, Nephs & Mish vinyl is still boxed up here with me and has never been touched. I have it all on cd or download now so really they're just for show and memories.........
No it doesn't to be perfectly honest. My MP3 player broke recently and I have returned to CD walkman.
The difference in sound quality is clear, CDs barely have a leg to stand on next to records, but MP3s might as well take a running jump off a cliff.
MP3 quality music
a) doesn't sound as good actually, it just doesn't have the body if you get what I mean.
b) doesn't feel as nice. Nothing to hold, no art to look at etc etc.
I am going to get a new MP3 player because it IS damn nice to have a massive collection in one place. For example, I might not want to listen to FGG's ambient synths while walking around, but when I get a quiet moment to myself I may want to have them on. If I can only bring up to 1 CD with me (or a few more and risk damaging them) then somethings will lose out every time....

It has no memory ,it's sample rate is preset to infinity, doesn't fit in my pocket discretely.
It's nice to have all my record collection in the one place.
Apparently you're allowed to kill children if they touch it.
Best part of all is it's upgadeabilty
.This is where I let mh take over...
I could not live without my Sony record player which was build in the late 70ies and is still running perfectly.
I think I will spend some time of my Easter holidays with my Sony, some swiss chocolate and the mint (if not unplayed) copy of the "Stranger" double EP I recently bought on Ebay. Yapp, that sounds like a great plan.

Those nice people at places like Trichord and Origin Live will give you mysterious looking little black boxes and tubes of rigid alloy (in exchange for a few measly numbers stamped on a bit of plastic). Your MP3 player will look even nicer and be less portable, but your sample rate will go to infinity + 1 times 10,000, nyyaaahhhh!
You may have some explaining to do, so far as the missus is concerned, though.
If I told them once, I told them a hundred times to put 'Spinal Tap' first and 'Puppet Show' last.

New styluses are more expensive than buying another turntable nowadays You'll notice when it wears out though (mine usually start to collect more dust by that time, more jumps, sound quality goes down and all that), just make sure not to put too much pressure on it and you'll be fine Maisey
