i got a monkey for christmas...

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

well, actually i got the gift of a chimp sponsorship at the sanaga-yong chimpanzee rescue center in cameroon ( http://www.ida-africa.org/ )

its nearly as good, and way more humane  :D

and it seemed a much better present idea than some tat i would use twice and then put back in its box and shove under the bed

the rescue center features in the Animal Planet channel's series Going Ape and they do some amazing work rescuing all sorts of primates :notworthy:

they also do a lot for their local community in terms of jobs, trade, education & medical care, etc (see the nationalgeographic.com article below) :notworthy:

now i tend not to throw this stuff at people, but they really do A Very Good Thing at the rescue center, so what the hell :)

Sponsor a Chimpanzee
ida-africa wrote:For a monthly donation of $15 for at least six months you will receive:

- an 8x10 photograph of the chimpanzee
- a full biography
- periodic updates and photos
- a handwritten Certificate of Sponsorship, and
- the satisfaction of knowing you have made a real difference!

Sponsorships also make great gifts! Updates are sent to both you, the donor, and the friend or family member in whose name the sponsorship is made.

100% of donations support the Sanaga-Yong Chimpanzee Rescue Center
$15 a month. thats about £8!

its nothing, and yet it makes so much difference.

go on... 8) :notworthy:

there's more about their work & their fight here: http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news ... nzees.html

ta :)

for the record, i sponsor Tik :D

Chimpanzees are apes, not monkeys. :P

But I won't monkey around with your thread.

We've been sponsoring a dolphin (Whiskey) through the WDCS for a few years, now. Must try and get up the Moray Firth to have look round the centre.

I'm a big fan of apes of all sorts, therefore I sponsor one of the last remaining Mountain Gorillas.

You know you want it too.

I occasionally donate to street children and orphans in Eastern Europe (Ukraine, Russia, Moldova, Romania, etc.) Nothing against donating to cute animals but let's not forget that our own are in trouble, too.

I've been sponsoring Willow the lovely horse up at Hope Pastures on the ring road for a while now. She's ace, a tempermental and aloof thing. Typical female. :innocent:  I think it's time for an avatar change.

Almost literally a stone's throw away from Hunter Towers, fella! This is getting spooky  I'll throw her a carrot over the weekend.
