Geek Help!

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

Here's an important first diagnostic to work out which end the disconnection occurs: Do any other web based things (ie downloading files or whatever) drop at the same time ?

If not then it's liable to be whatever you're using to connect to the chat room OR that end. If it's that end then you're obviously a bit stuffed. Maybe pop a message on seeing if others are also being kicked if so ?

If it seems to be your end then maybe find another chat client and see if that does the same. My usual rule for tracking things down is to do the same thing using a different tool or program and see if the issue stays or goes.

That's always a good way to get 70% of the way to diagnosing stuff..............

It's a Java Applet not JavaScript (annoyingly similar names, completely different things) but I wouldn't think that would be causing the problem.

I can't even get into the damn thing (which is no great loss ;) ).

It might be worth updating your Java VM - go to http://www.java.com/en/download/index.jsp, download & install.
