Pears is really nice but the bar doesn't last long. It's translucent (can't remember what colour) and has a distinctive oval shape with an indent in the middle (apparently to accommodate the remains of the older bars thereby minimising waste). Wright's Coal Tar has an overpowering medicated smell which proved to be a bit too much for my small windowless bathroom.

Better still is the limited edition citrus version they brought out a few years ago. I discovered an unused bar I'd stashed away recently and now my bathroom smells of oranges :D

Thanks to Christian for encouraging my question, and thanks to the person who sent me the soaps (and whose identity I won't reveal for fear some of you would comment about how silly they think it is to do such a thing :P) I can now state my opinion. :notworthy: At first I thought I'd better keep it as PM, but then I thought - what the hell, one never knows how many sensitive souls out there might read it and understand it, apart from those who'll read it and shake their heads with contempt/pity/whatever that's good for concealing the lack of this kind of sensitivity.
Pears' smell is lovely. Scent of an angel. Delicate but rare and distinctive. It's close to the smell of the oak wood of my great-grandmother's wardrobe (the clothes and the parfume are long gone, but the wardrobe still holds the smell). It would suit a bathroom in a theatre, with a vase full of peacock feathers in the corner. It's beautiful, but not as good as the algae series by Oriflame, or Priscilla Presley's "Moments", or black Adidas for men, or the smell of sprouting nettles on a hot, dry, sunny day. Still, it'll have a place amongst my top 10.
Wright's, on the other hand, has to be in the top 5. It's one poetry of a smell! Devil's parfume, more devilish than the heaviest opiums and musks and air after thunder. It brings back the days when the grey-clad men smeared the roof with tar (the summer when I was 6 and I thought I had been born to become a princess). It also smells like railway tracks, and so it brings back the various train stations with all the luggage that's connected with them. I recall the air surrounding the local steelworks had a similar smell too, before they put the environment-friendly filters on the chimneys. And metal tools that had contact with aqua regia, and the dust that swirled in the lab. I dare say, it doesn't even need hot water to unravel it all. I changed my mind about Kenzo's parfume - it would suit :von:, but not as good as this "innocent" soap. Unless the combination of the two would surpass everything. :!: :?: That is all, thank you. :)
