Catatonia had something going for them, or at least it seemed that way to me on the cusp of my teens, when I'd have appreciated any band with guitars that had a girl singing with them. Plus, because of my Manics obsession at the time, I thought almost anything from Wales was just teh coolness - "Every day when I wake up, I thank the Lord I'm Welsh!"Gollum's Cock wrote:Bastards all of you....
And nobody mentioned Tha Alarm, Stereophonics, Catatonia and of course The Super Furry Animals.
Super Furry Animals - God! Show Me Magic and Hermann Loves Pauline were daft class... but nothing more.
As for Stereophonics, they were just dire. Music for people who don't like music, that's what that was
All three of them were part of that post-Britpop hangover in the mid/late nineties, dull, pedestrian laddishness well and truly ruled the charts... least that's how it seemed to me at the time. The Manics, even post-Richey, should have been a thorn in the side of all that but they failed miserably. Hence my looking back a few years to when they had some spirit, and eventually even further to the other bands which I still love now.

Oi! My aunt wrote some of the scripts for Pobl-Y-CwmGollum's Cock wrote: TV wise class such as Pobl -Y -Cwm and Dirty Sanchez. Oow (just shot myself in the foot).
Mind you, she did say it wasn't hard or taxing
She used to name the characters after members of our family, mind you "streamline the gorgeous sexual predator fully loaded with wit, charm and money" never appeared

I've actually been there.
It's just a railway station, as far as I can remember.
Don't suppose there's much room for anything else once the sign's up.

I would be inclined to agree with you about our fellow countrymen, but then....James Blast wrote:Man, The Neutrons and that's it for Taff Rock.

Cocteau Twins? Cindytalk? Jesus And Mary Chain? Primal Scream?
Not bad!
I've even got time for Simple Minds, and I'm sorry but Annie Lennox is a goddess - FACT!

Just listened to it again, and yes it is pretty s**t (or Englishy as we say in Wales). Just happy to see that James Bradfield has lost a bit of weight, the lager loving ex mountain runner.
PS If I'm not mistaken TigerTailz were also Welsh.(anyone remember Love Bomb Baby)

This thread has got me nostalgia tripping on my old Manics records now
Holy Bible is still the standout, but Generation Terrorists, Everything Must Go and even Gold Against The Soul (yes!) still have their moments. Maybe even This Is My Truth, at a push.
And listening to Motorcycle Emptiness again, after all these years, just slayed me. Remember many rainy days home from school on the train to that one.

Always felt to me like a mixture of posturing & bravado, naivety held under enthusiasm. Behind it all there was a spark though, somewhat unfettered by cynicism.
That's what I don't see now.
