Put their heads on f*cking pikes in front of the venue for all I care.
ListeneD. They shot the guy, it seems. I'm wondering why it always happens at schools in the recent years. And it's not just limiting itself to the U.S. Germany, Holland... This society has gone insane a long while back and now is reaping the 'rewards'...

Madison Van Duyne said she and her classmates in a media writing class were on "lockdown" in their classrooms. They were huddled in the middle of the classroom, writing stories about the shootings and posting them online.

Not really enough info as of yet, but if it was another Columbine-esque scenario..
I can think of many occasions I'd have happily gunned down a number of my schoolmates. Fortunately getting hold of a gun would have been near impossible for me, unlike an American teenager who probably lives in a home with at least one gun in the house.
Teens are generally a pretty unstable lot, I remember I was. Its more surprising to me, knowing some of the nasty stuff that goes on in schools and colleges, that it doesn't happen more often.
Not too sure if I dont think the opening post sounded a little flip..

This kid just informed me on msn that it would never have happened if all kids were allowed to carry guns to school to protect themselves (the mind boggles).
Anyways, stuff like this really disturbs me. It gives you a jolt and you realize that all this really screwed stuff is going on around you and you have no control over it whatsoever. But then five minutes pass, you forget all about it and things are back to normal.

Don't... I still remember the KMFDM album Adios being plastered on the front page of the Grauniads G2 section with the headline "Is this album to blame for Colombine".. Becoming more prevalent these days, I'm p*ssed off so I'll kill people
I'm experiencing first hand the violence that seems to be in the younger generations, quite shocking and answers are just not that easy to come by

Seems so far to be about 31 dead and 10 others injured. Worst ever shooting like this in US history.
We have knives as one of the easiest things to get and we have increasing stabbings.
The US has guns far more readily available and they get shootings.
It's all pretty crap really, isn't it.......

In my opinion, the real problem is the attitude I can garentee will be displayed in the aftermath.
Firstly, the parents will be to blame.
Secondly the music that the kid listens to
Next, the internet, and the forums he visited
Lastly, his gang of like minded friends will be the culprit.
What is NOT to blame is a socity that glorifies guns, and gives everyone the access, nay, the right to one.
It will never be attributed to the fact that this kid was probably a bit odd and more than likly had the s**t bullied out of him by his normal and wholesome peers.
It certainly has nothing to do with a society that demonises sex but makes violence easily accessable.
The fact that this kid might well cut his flesh and worship satan and genuinely belive he is the antichrist has more to do with the set of reasons listed above than the fact that there is such a fixed ideal of what is normal and healthy that he is trying to express distaste for that without the cultural influence that many teenagers in other part of the world have.

Apparently some talking head from an anti-computer-games lobby in the US has already been blaming it on computer games, despite the fact that the police haven't even released the name of the shooter, let alone whether he played computer games , or whether they were anything to do with this.
So that's him sorted with $$$ for appearances on chat shows for the next year or so.
An yes, both pro-gun lobby and gun-control lobby are popping up all over the place. I'm sure the anti-spooky-music-and-black coat lobbyists are already checking their pearly-white smiles and learning their lines.
Maisey - you're absolutely right. You must never blame society - there's no percentage in that. Percentage profit, that is.

I agree with Maisey; I remember that when I was being bullied at school I entertained some pretty violent revenge-fantasies. But I never had access to any firearms...

'What a heavy load Einstein must have had. Morons everywhere.'
You're not alone there. My revenge plot was to become a famous musician and show them. It's going a bit slow (my former classmate Daan Stuyven and former school buddy Mauro Pawlowski beat me to it) but I'm getting there...markfiend wrote:I agree with Maisey; I remember that when I was being bullied at school I entertained some pretty violent revenge-fantasies. But no guns. Strangely, I took it all out on myself rather than others. Never wanted to kill anyone else for being bullied and harrassed. I don't know how it would have been had I had access to them, though. I still don't feel it's a good idea to have firearms for all the way they do across the pond, as is being illustrated once again.
A news report mentions it's 'normal to have metal detectors at high schools nowadays, but not at campuses'. Normal? That's the feckin' NORM now in American high schools? Well, it's not my idea of normal. And as I said, it's not just happening in the U.S. Germany, Holland, high school kids shooting immigrants out of racist motives in Belgium... It's everywhere. One of my colleagues at work was disgusted that the news reports emphasized the fact that it has been the shooting with the largest amount of victims and reacted :" So when did we start to take the shootings as a given and started to focus on the victim rate?". She's not wrong...

I agree with Maisey too although what I don't get is why the f**k are any kids allowed to bring guns to school!markfiend wrote:I agree with Maisey; I remember that when I was being bullied at school I entertained some pretty violent revenge-fantasies. But I never had access to any firearms...
The only solution would be to ban all guns but that's reaching high in this bloodwanting world.

Another stupid, pointless waste of life - as if there wasn't enough examples already.
All in the name of "the right to bear arms".
Living in a country where the average cop doesn't carry a gun has made me appreciate that I feel a whole lot safer when nobody has firearms.
Although I note we're starting to develop a gun culture of our own in the UK with drive-by shootings.
Another "wonderful" import from the US of A.
I've never understood why these people can't cut out the middleman and shoot themselves straight off. Isn't that enough of a tragedy?

It just all seems rather bandwagoneering to be honest...
And I do think we might be jumping to the wrong conclusions a little to hastily.. Remember, the Oklahoma bombing - America's worst terrorist attack - was done by someone that appeared to be the all-round average Joe.. And it appears that the only "goff" thing this perpetrator has in common so far is that he wore a leather jacket..
It's all to easy to start trying to protect ourselves - if we can define ourselves as one cohesive unit in the first place, les estrangers if you will, when really nothing has yet been proven or shown. However, I have scant regard for someone that assumes that because I watch certain films, read certain authors, listen to certain music and even eat the wrong kind of food that I must be some kind of satan worshipping wannabe mass murderer. it's hypocrisy for people to do so, especially the religious types. I'm confident that I could find more examples of rape, murder and incest in the Old Testament alone than I would in my entire DVD collection.
No, it's the usual response by society. It doesn't want to look at itself in the mirror. To realise that perhaps, it's the banality of evil that makes it so difficult for us to face. (If one can even talk about evil in the first place, as fine something may be bad or tragic, but calling it evil makes it even more "demonic" and easier to cast off from the image of society as a whole. If any of you have seen the film Downfall you'll know what I'm talking about. It's an horrific film in that it depicts what some would consider to be the most evil men of the 20th century as mere humans, not dark satanic demons. By continuing to do this we lose hope of being able to identify the real reasons for such acts, in other words the marginalisation of people on society, the failure of society to act as a cohesive unit and actually look after its components, i.e watching out for your neighbour. No, we live solitary lives and have little more direction these days other than to eat, consume, breed and die - just as long as you pay the right money to the right company. Heaven help you if you should actually think why the hell you're doing it and what the alternative would be, as let's face it even if you did try to live an alternative life, you still have to do so within the framework of the dominant system..
Conversely, it's the very same process that a lot of us choose - in Europe and the UK - to demonise the whole nation of America, when really it was the manipulation of a system by an elite, misleading a minority that led to the current government. And it sickens me that people right now can actually joke about what is possibly the worst tragedy that can befall on 30 families. Imagine if 30 people we knew were all to lose someone they loved and cared for as a result of some random explosion of violence like this. It's not appropriate to say, oh it's stupid yanks blowing themselves apart. We can't ascribe sin onto a whole people because of the actions of an unhinged minority..
anwyay, I'm rambling as I forgot my nicotine tabs this morning dammiit...
well, it now transpires the perp was Asian, so this might open up another can of worms altogether...
