Best sounding version of 'Good Things' available?

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

Crashing hard drives are a terrible thing...

Big Si collected them and put them all on a cd-r for me. Would you like a copy of that cd-r?

Hi everyone. Finding a decent version of the Peel session of Good Things has been like trying to find the holy grail. I've spent 4 years on and off looking on the internet, kazaa, winmx etc but I've never found it.

After many fruitless searches and blind alleys I finally found this site and THIS thread... it means the track DOES exist outside of the BBC archives!! Is my quest nearly at an end? Will someone PLEASE host the file once more and put me out of my misery?!! I would be eternally grateful - this is my all time favourite Sisters track but I've only ever heard the scratchy crap recording.

Thanks in anticipation!

Hot damn---just pulled down 1969, waiting on the other two.

Best quality I've heard, much clearer than the boots I have.

Many and much thanks! :notworthy:

here's a different, slower version of Good Things.

it's the 1982 Portastudio demo, from the 'Before The Flood' bootleg CD.
part of the massive 'Demos & Outtakes 1981-1986' FLAC torrent.

the drum machine sound is quite different from the faster version posted here.

Damn. probably very nice material, but this rapidshare stuff did not work.... "download session invalid".
Anyone willing to host the goodthings-file again (in a different way)?

(already got the portastudio version from 'acoustics from the beehive' - also a nice one indeed - tx Davedecay)

Just saw this thread - will do a quick recap:

These sessions regualry come up on BBC 6 (http://www.bbc.co.uk/6music/shows/dream_ticket/) which is digital radio station here in the UK. Purist indeed feel that DAB is audio-degradable and in some quarters it is not permitted as lossy. WHen trading with people please check.

FLAC for the Mac (OS X only) can be dowloaded here: http://flac.sourceforge.net/download.html

Isn't the Peel Session from 1982: 1969/Floorshow/Good Things/Alice.

Kid Jensen 1983:
Heartland/Jolene/Valentine/Burn.

Peel Session 1984:
Poison Door/No Time to Cry/Walk Away/Emma.

This is what I have from the radioland boot. Any corrections welcome. Can't believe Eldritch has never bothered to release this properly.

You can't believe Eldritch never bothered to release something?

Yes, the Radioland boot has these tracks in that order, so does Psychedelic Sessions.

But upon listening to these excellent, best-versions, I believe Lachert is correct:

- Good Things
- Floorshow
- Alice
- 1969

Notice in these versions that the beat to Alice immediately kicks in after Floorshow---there isn't a gap to make a clean cut.

On those other bootlegs it sounds like they did made a cut and wound up cutting a beat off the beginning of Alice (this always annoyed me).

Why the bootleggers would then go and mix up the order of the tracks anyway is beyond me...just your typical bootleg practices of re-ordering tracks, etc, etc. Also, on Psychedelic Sessions the beginning of Good Things is fudged, sounds as if someone is whirring up the tape for a split second before The Doktor kicks in. (And yet, the sound quality of Good Things is better on Psychedelic Sessions than Radioland).

Given how excellent these versions sound, I'll gladly take the single track of Floorshow/Alice.

Man, I'm sad. But as I'm stuck at work at this stupid hour...
