Tony James !

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

Just seen that arrogant tool on Channel Four news, as part of a piece on a Joe Strummer documentary or something or other.

They interviewed Mick Jones and they just happened to be rehearsing his new band and there's Tony James looking all old and balding disgracefully.

He looked like one of those chubby greying blokes you see in a pub band who thinks he used to be some one once for ten minutes and yet still thinks he's going to make it big one day again.

Bless him.

He was. And he won't

Still sticks on that big ol' wig now and again for SSS appearances, by all accounts - though SSS without Degville will be like, oh I don't know... the Sisters without Hussey?

Didn't he suggest the "Another black hole in the killing zone" -line in VT?

TJ was one of the best three full-time bass-players The Sisters have ever had ;)

If you're reading this Tony, I love you really.

I remember thinking it was an unusual choice for TJ when he joined the Sissies but was patient for the album and thought it was a great direction change for the band. VT is still quite a treasure chest of gems for me.

After reading much of James' love hate relation ship with the Sisters - you have to almost feel for the guy. Been on the fringes of virtually everything since the 1970's but never got the credit or the acclaim that so many did around him.

My first and lasting impression of him was when he was interviewed on the Tube in all his Hazy fantazie style garb and he was waffling on about 'glorious designer violence' or something equally preposterous. But he did play the role well - of arrogant superstar who actually had nothing to really gloat about.

I tip my hat to Mr James, he is the ultimate mercenary, in a SAS style, in and out without anyone really knowing he was there.

Degville attended a Rosetta Stone show at the Camden Underworld once, so I can tick his name off along with three out of four of the classic Sisters line-up, so maybe he did have at least one redeeming feature. Possibly.
