Andrew's last creation so far, the sub-techno, drumless album Go Figure, has the reputation of being extremely bad, or so I had been told.
Recently I finally gave the album a listen after I had kept it in a dark corner of my pc for weeks and weeks.
First thing I noticed, it isn't exactly very bad, it's just, as I had been told as well, very boring and long, with simple repeating techno sounds. Occasionally
mixed with a flute or string, and a few whispered vocals.
But the album isn't just a fantasy-less two-day creation of Andrew to bug EastWest and get out of his contract, there is good sides to it as well, I noticed!
Although the music is dull, simple and without any quality, it is not, shall I say, hard to listen to. It does not annoy the listener;but it's just not good.
So far I have found it a very, very suitable album to listen to whilst making my homework (since it does not distract me with either quality or interesting vocals), and an even better album to fall asleep to!
It has its purposes

You were misinformed. AE had nothing to do with it, apart from some sampled vocals.Tidal wrote:Andrew's last creation so far, the sub-techno, drumless album Go Figure, has the reputation of being extremely bad, or so I had been told.
The official site wrote:SSV's only album ('Go Figure') features music by P.Bellendir and words by T.Schroeder. It was produced by P.Bellendir in 1997. It does not feature anything by Andrew Eldritch except some sampled vocals.
Because of those sampled vocals, East West bought the record (without having heard it) and agreed to release Andrew from his recording contract.

Don't forget SSV's only raison d'être was to p*ss off the record company.Tidal wrote: But...what about the names of the songs...and the name of the band...and Eldritch joining in the creation of it at all?!
It's not even supposed to be a piece of art.

It is utter s**t.
But as a tool to p!ss of the record co. it is perfect.
Actually. Let's think about that!!
He needed to do that to "satisfy" the record co. so they'd release him from the contract right?Doesn't this show you how much notice the record co. takes?
Would you have released the guy after being given that jobbie?

I think thats Von's current dilema too! Funny how history repeats itself!
LAND ROVER: THE BEAST FOUR BY FOUR BY FEAR! KICKS THE ARSE OFF RICEBURNERS!
I do remember, that at the leeds uni gig in 2001, between dave thomas and tinstar, hearing the said album, with drums and you could tell that the doktor had been busy on the tracks, i recall the tones of a bass played by him too, this was just before the reggea music btw.
Not as good as Motorhead, but better than The Birthday Party, which makes us pretty damn good.

But what good did it bring to the band? The release from that contract was the last thing the word "released" could be related to the Sisters ...
No, do not mention re-releases or Susanne...

So SSV stumbled upon the trade secret of REM and Travis then?Tidal wrote:Although the music is dull, simple and without any quality, it is not, shall I say, hard to listen to. It does not annoy the listener;but it's just not good.

Oh yeah, then i stick the relevant stuff on a database, so any hacker can find out whatever they want about you. God I love our government, full of great ideas.
It's a pretty ghastly job in that respect, but the bills don't pay themselves.
