Possibly, or possibly not, worth a moment or two of reflection today on the 27th anniversary of Ian Curtis' death. A great lyricist and singer and still deeply missed.

It's easy to get caught up in the mood and type a heap but I think simply that he was a troubled man who fronted a band that made some cracking music.
Simple, direct and far more than the sum of his parts.

I went to visit his memorial stone and the house where he died a couple of years ago.
The house is tiny, it's a shame he wasn't recognised as something special a bit more while he was here.
Lets hope he's peaceful now.

What saddens and scares me about the awful suicide deaths of folks like Ian is that these people seemingly had a lot to live for - yet their creative pursuits, careers, relationships, friends, fame, and the like, were still not enough to counteract the overwhelming, insurmountable despair that they struggled with (and that they ultimately succumbed to). Doesn't bode well for those of us who suffer, and have suffered, from similar suffocating, lifelong depression and other mental illness, but who, conversely, really have nothing to keep them going but sheer force of will...
My heart goes out to him, and to those he left behind.

That is so well expressed and so right.

Thanks, Eldy. I was actually very hesitant about posting this, for fear of upsetting or annoying my HL pals. In sum, "there but for the grace of Mom" I'd have gone, myself.eldorado69 wrote:SINsister wrote:What saddens and scares me about the awful suicide deaths of folks like Ian is that these people seemingly had a lot to live for - yet their creative pursuits, careers, relationships, friends, fame, and the like, were still not enough to counteract the overwhelming, insurmountable despair that they struggled with (and that they ultimately succumbed to). It is because I have an understanding of such things myself, though not subjectively, that I appreciate your comments.
Existence well what does it matter?
I exist on the best terms I can.
The past is now part of my future,
The present is well out of hand.
The present is well out of hand.
Heart and soul, one will burn
