Banshees

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

Jeff Apter, in his book on The Cure, claims that Siouxsie and the Banshees are responsible for the existence not just of The Cure, but also The Sisters of Mercy. Is there any evidence AT ALL behind this claim, or is it just the usual baloney that journalists write down because it sounds good, without actually thinking it through?

How could it be true? I don't understand...

I think he was also a little smitten with her around the time of Superstition - if only cos she'd started dressing like a grown up!
As was Patty who was at the Banshees T&C shows in 91 :)

All well and good, but all that's hardly "responsible for the existence [... of ...] The Sisters of Mercy" is it?

Course not - didn't The Easy Cure pre-date the Banshees?

dunno about their influences when they were starting off (as a dodgy "new wave" punk band) but surely cab voltaire were responsible for faith & pronography-era cure? bob says as much in 'ten imaginary years'. the stark mood and monochrome imagery, the experimentation with feedback, tape loops and unpleasent guitar noises

the whole concept behind carnage visors is pure cabs...

however, i can imagine that bob's spell in the banshees (& the time spent hanging out with severin while recording the glove's stuff) made an impression. possibly leading tyo him fealing like he could take the cure in a more psychadelic/cartoon-esque direction...
