Opening song for sisters gig

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

My favourite opening song has always been Kiss the carpet.

I'd go for Burn.

If you have the Brighton 84 gig, you'll know what I mean..

Especially the '83 bootlegs opening with Kiss :notworthy:

Anything.

Crash and Burn is pretty f'n gripping.

That said, i do like defiant setlists also - like Flood II or Dominion as an opener. i like it when bands don't cater for the audience but do their thing.

Comfortably Numb/SKOS would be nice IMO.

Kiss The Carpet is nice as well and I can also live with Crash & Burn.

But I'd prefer Afterhours as the intro. 8)

Opener : C&B or Kiss the carpet.
Burn was fine in 84, but I don't think the "new" version would do the trick. I don't like Ribbons as an opener either.
They should keep CN/SKOS for the encores. As for the last track, it doesn't get much better than the Ghostrider/Sister Ray/Louie Louie/whatever you like 15 minutes extravaganza. 8)
Why not try Temple of love (long version) as the last song ? :innocent:

Hear! Hear! What I would give to be with Ozpat and Stephan M on that mystical night!

Anyway --- favorite openers...

Afterhours intro with Kiss the Carpet followed by Ribbons on the 1992 "Dark Christmas In London" bootleg is simply incredible! It's a nice smooth ride into the more rocking songs.

I also like Crash and Burn after the hypno-intro music. It rocks like an opener anyway, especially on the Novarock 2006 recording... which also rocks!

First and Last and Always was a great opener for the early 1990s gigs... but I seem to like it better in the second half of a set, especially the updated faster version of later gigs.

Ribbons -- I love this thumping Sister's song but not as an opener (except for those few supporting gigs of 1993). Whatever song they open with, I love Ribbons as the second -- just listen to Novarock 2006!

Burn rocked as an opening song for the 1980s gigs... but it's tempo works better now as a surprise song in the middle of a set.

My two cents! ;D
