For me Brixton Academy was the mutt's nuts.

Well Brixton was the first place I could take my GF where she could still see if stood at the back.
I liked all the faux ancient stuff either side of the stage & the dome made it look sort of outdoors, but not.
Good sound there too.

The Glasgow Apollo.(RIP)
Why?
Good question,bad points :-
the place was falling to bits,the seats were always dirty and dusty, It was all seated,the circle and the upper circle used to bounce during a gig.The stage was 20ft up and your neck always hurt the next day.There was no bar and you could only buy tickets from the box office at the venue.

Great sound,a lot of live albums were recorded there.Great atmos.Every gig was an event not just another date on the tour.It was a place bands wanted to do well in,as it had a tough reputation.My fondest memories are booing off 3rd rate support bands (Bon Jovi,Tank etc) and being surprised by very good support bands (The Rods,Diamond Head , Manowar etc).
As with most things in life you don't realise how good something is until it's gone. Weebles mentions the Barras but it was always very lame compared to the Apollo,sound is always touch and go,and a lot of the performers seem to have trouble remembering what town they're in.The crowd always waits to be entertained rather than becoming part of the show.The Pavillion in Edinburgh was always meant to be the Apollos great rival,but I've been there several times and always found the place and the crowd to be too polite (no standing and only clapping during Iggy Pop ffs.)

Good to get that out of my system,now I can move on

Apollo just before my time but I've seen some storming sets at the barras-cult Electric tour/Lorries~m*****n/Suede/Furs to name but a few

The Cult gig was a cracker though

Paris' Stade de France was cool. It's huuuuuge (80.000 seats) and pretty nice looking but still offers excellent sound quality. Oh and you don't get wet when it rains thanks to that kind of weird giant umbrella right above the stands.

Worst venue in the whole universe has to be the Hall Rhénus in my hometown of Strasbourg. It's no more than a freaking warehouse !

Mine used to be thte Astoria in London but lately the sound quality hasn't been all that whereas the Brixton Academy is out of this world, I've seen so many groups there and its still an excellent venue!

Brixton Academy is very groovy, as is the Manc Apollo for similar reasons (no seating (any more) and sloping floor). Any stage at Glastonbury, irrespective of performer. But the Leeds Town & Country remains(ed) my favourite, just a great vibe there always, and great sound. So of course they turned it into a nightclub. Tools.

I'm with Pat on this, The Glasgow Apollo.(RIP) for all the reasons listed above, plus it was the first place I got to see so many bands., so I will certainly admit to a fair amount of bias....

Interesting (on the part of the Brit contingent at least) that there's no mention of the Wembley's, NEC's or similar stadium type "mega venues".

I have been to both Wembley & the NEC & the sound (particularly at Wembley) was astonishing, but they haven't featured here as yet.
In fact the best gig I ever saw was at wembley, but the venue is pretty pants tbh.

Seconded. For various reasons.

It is a very nice infrastructure, with the balconies and the seats and stuff, nice and big foyer with very fast service, pristine acoustics, and a lot of COOL bands

AND, we played there ourselves, very professional people working there...

Bonn Museumsmeile, a semi-open air, on a warm summer evening.
Saw my first sisters gig there and was overwhelmed by the athmosphere under that tent roof.

For an outdoor gig, the Petofi Csarnok (Pecsa)in Budapest was good.
Like a small amphitheatre & surprisingly good audio for an outdoor thingy.
