Semi going played several gigs over the last few years the most recent was the Devonshire Camden it is just Rick and Christian from the original lineup now, but they are supposed to be playing a support slot (not sure if it is tour or selected dates) very soon and Ben has learnt the whole "through the veil" album.markfiend wrote:o_O

OK, cool.
Come to think of it, I dare say that if someone posted on a Claytown Troupe fan forum that Ben toured last year with the Sisters, you might get a reply saying something like:

If I told them once, I told them a hundred times to put 'Spinal Tap' first and 'Puppet Show' last.

Probably it is not a good sign for the sisters, if Ben spends some time with another band, it means that the sisters are not active writing new song and as well they don't work on live shows with a new set list ...

You know, there's something vaguely pathetic about how much time we spend thinking about the new record.
While I wouldn't place any bets on it, I'm inclined to think it won't ever come (but I'd buy it if it did). Von says he wants a large label deal, but he could probably make more money doing an independent pressing and selling it himself via Itunes downloads and at shows. If, as has been claimed, the record could be completed in a few months, there's no reason not to at least test the water with an independent single. It doesn't have to be Summer, it could be anything--a short print run of a three-to-five song single would likely recoup its money very quickly. Given the size of the crowds on the last tour, a larger print run could probably do the same. Why not? I can only assume it's a degree of laziness. The internet allows independent musicians to cut out the middlemen, and thus maintain greater control over their product (which Von surely wants) and to reap a greater percentage of the profits (again, which Von surely wants). A band of this stature would seem to have more to gain than to lose in such a venture. The Sisters could be a cutting edge band again, taking advantage of the new media, etc, but instead, Von allegedly wants to walk with the record label dinosaurs. The industry has changed, and his history of playing by his own rules will prevent nearly any label from wanting to get into bed with him; he can, however, make a go of it independently and probably add to his retirement fund pretty quickly. If he doesn't want to, that's fine--but he should probably eliminate the "Record News" section of the website. It's gone from being hopeful, to being funny, to being, frankly, just sad.*
*Seriously, if you were a record label A&R man, would you look at a website full of empty promises and say "Sure, sign 'em up!"? I rather doubt it. And let's not even think about http://www.merciful-release.com --what is that, "Site Under Construction" for nigh on ten years? Ever get the feeing you've been cheated?

Can't say I'd blame Ben. He's young, and an active band is definitely a more attractive proposition.

Does this mean The Sisters can get a proper lead guitarist in for the next tour?
(sorry, I just don't think his 'style' of playing fits the band / music at all)

I think he is helping out a band he admires as a hired hand! I doubt very much that the dates with CT will be many as CR (lead singer) has a very busy day job. Agreed not sure if his style suits the girls but do like the new intro for FALAA.Planet Dave wrote:Does this mean The Sisters can get a proper lead guitarist in for the next tour?

Bens always had loads of different projects on the go, and hes been jamming with CTT for a while, so I hear Ben and Bens Mate got back a while both being from Bristol way.
I do know that TSOM is his No1 Priority.

So is Ben, so does Ben. So is Chris, So does Chris.
And the others. Andrew has proven a lucky hand at finding musiscians.

So you play guitar in TSOM then you make room to play guitar for the reformed & no one cares Claytown Troupe.
What a f**king absence of style and credibility.
