Coming from the lone american here... George W Bush is definitely THE Prince of Darkness
I'd say the Sisters are in fact goth... in the meaning that, their music can easily be classified as goth. And what do you expect when you are one of the most inlfuential bands on goth scene ever? And dress like that?
The problem is that didn't have the intention of making goth music. His idea was to make postpunk/alternative rock, which the classification was in those days. But with goth as a new style, Andy finds himself not wanting to belong with these other bands, it was never what he intended.
So the choice is this: Are the Sisters goth?
(what their band would be classified as): YES
(what intended to make the band): no

This has been said before, and while I'd agree that everything up to and (possibly) including FALAA could be described as "postpunk/alternative rock", there is no way you could apply that label to Floodland.Tidal wrote:His idea was to make postpunk/alternative rock, which the classification was in those days.

"Psychedelic Dub Metal" was a term I seem to remember being used.

If I told them once, I told them a hundred times to put 'Spinal Tap' first and 'Puppet Show' last.

can anyone explain my what means "goth"? and this is serious i really dunno
and someone wrote that "Floodland" was true goth, but there's another question : what goth scene looks in the days when "Floodland" was released? Wasn't that the mr. E (with a little help of Patsy) made-accidentally- goth scene ?( yes i remember how influential sisters were for 2nd wave of gothic music )

Everyone has their own definition of "goth". For me it's UK Decay, Sex Gang Children, Southern Death Cult and a few like-minded bands.
For the rest, call it "dark rock", or "post-punk" or whatever. Good music transcends genre classifications anyway.

Interesting, especially how none of those apply to the Sisters in any way, shape or form.mh wrote:"Psychedelic Dub Metal" was a term I seem to remember being used.

None of those bands are "g*th", man. "Alternative" and some form of metal, maybe...
Next thing you know, you'll be claiming that Manson's g*th, ffs... *Shakes head*

I left my heart in Ballycastle...
Evanescence/ Within Temptation/ Night Wish was what I knew as goth back when I was still pop/goth/rock orientated... Wasn't bad, for sure, but if you'd call the Sisters goth, it'd mean something quite different from calling those three goth.
It's good to be back
Within Temptation, Nightwish and all those bands are Opera Metal. In the case of the former they might cross over being a pop rock band like Evanescence, a band that modeled itself after Within Temptation but had the American music industry behind them and hence became more popular than the original. Who then reinvented themselves after their clone. In either case none of that's goth and a lot of it sucks imo. The Sisters are The Sisters (well, Andrew anyway )...
