DOMINION! MH Invades Jordan

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

It's getting close to that time - on Monday I fly out, and hit Amman that night. The Petra Pilgrimage will occur later in the week, then on to the lowest place on the planet (the Dead Sea) for wrapping up.

Didn't know that the settlement of Amman went back to 6500 BC - now that's history!

Especially looking forward to this:

Photographic evidence will be provided. Can't promise a white suit, but I'll be doing my best to be wearing as much white as possible, and also to be arseing about with a stick.

Dunno how much internet ops I'll have over there, so you'll have to wait till the 20th.

I'll bring you all back either a chocolate flavoured camel or a camel flavoured chocolate (your choice ;D ), but as the chance to deliver them in person (before their sell-by date, at any rate) probably won't arise, I figure I'll just scoff them meself (unless of course it's the camel flavoured chocolate).

This is probably going to be one of my last posts here before I head off, as I'm heading back to my parent's place for a bit first, so if it is, toodle-pip y'all!
If I told them once, I told them a hundred times to put 'Spinal Tap' first and 'Puppet Show' last.

Looking forward to hearing all the details - it's a must see on my list of must sees. :)

MH - Jordan is f*ckin' AWESOME! You'll love Petra, you can get great shwarma kebabs at a road-side stand near the 7th Circle in Amman (who are you going with? if it's Explore, the hotel they use is right across the street from the kebab stand), and there are internet cafes in Petra, Be sure to get up early and take the back way into the site, down a wadi, you get to see sunrise over the site - it's flippin' brilliant! Have an awesome time!

PS to do the Dominion thing, you'll need to be at the urn tomb at Petra - you'll recognise it when you see it.

So far so bloody groovy!

Crashing out and winding down by the Dead Sea at the mo, just chilling and relaxing. Got to go into Jerusalem yesterday, which was interesting and exciting - lots of barbed wire and machine guns, but a lovely city. Very tight schedule though, so we missed the Wailing Wall - oh well, it's an excuse to go back!

Petra was FAN-DABBI-DOZI! :notworthy: No white suit, but photographic evidence is lurking in my camera, so when I get to home you'll all see it. Did the 900 (or was it 850?) steps up to the Monastery, which was quite an exhausting 80 minute climb, but going back down near sunset, you get to see all the colours in the rocks changing. More than worth it.

So far I've seen the ancient Roman city of Jerash, Arabs playing bagpipes in a ruined Roman theatre, fragments of the Dead Sea Scrolls, the oldest known human statue, been trekking in the Wadi Rum and seen all of Larry the Arab's main sites, Petra (of course), all of the major Christian stuff in Jerusalem (a few Holy Joes on the trip got a bit over-excited there), lots of major Moslem stuff (yes, going by my own personal experience, Islam is very much a peaceful religion), and much much more. Part way through Ramadan right now, but it's not really impacting that much on boozing opportunities, and the availability of Hubbly Bubbly pipes is totally unaffected. :D

I totally recommend this country - git yo asses over here!
