Radiohead new album: A business model for the future?

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

You where asked to pay no more than something like 3.99 for an album.(it was a long time ago so I don't remember too well)The art work was pretty good too. Each cover folded out into a poster. I was a about 10 years old at the time and they used to scare the bejazus out of me but my older brother thought they rocked.
As a die hard CRASS fan I remember that well. What it meant was the shop could only charge you 3.99. If they tried to charge more you knew you were getting ripped off. They did screw themselves with their early 7" singles selling for 45p, which did not take into account VAT (a large bill for which duly arrived at their commune!)

This is certainly a good idea for someone like Radiohead, but it would kill The Sisters.

One approach that might work for The Sisters is one that Mostly Autumn took. They had enough cash to pay for the recording and mastering of one of their CD's, but not enough to cover the printing and pressing, so they made the CD available as a pre-order only, priced at just above cost.
I don't necessarily agree with everything I think.

Bear in mind that you get the first one of the two CD's in the download......and yes, I got mine before going to work today too and listened to it walking in - it's properly good and sounds far more like a proper band album than a laptop one, if you know what I mean.

'Proper good' in a The Bends kinda way? If so they can have some of my dollar too. Went right off them when they released Ok W@nk, but The Bends still gets many a cranked-up listen.

As for The Sisters, I hope Von's vocal cord transplant was a success if there's any talk about recording an album. :innocent: ;D

It's quite mixed between raw guitar tunes ("Bodysnatchers" on now rawks!) and soft ballads ("nude") - bear in mind you can grab it for some tiny sum (or even nothing) if you want so I'd say to just dive in and grab a copy - you've nowt to lose!

It's exactly as you'd expect... It sounds like a proper album, more than kidA for example.
I downloaded t for three quid, and have dumped it onto my colleagues' desktops so they can have a spin too.

The verdict is pretty good!

I have to say, that review is utter bollox - just one persons wildy non-objective rant because it isn't the side of Radiohead they wanted. I know music is always a subjective thing but that was tosh !

That sounded just like "If people start paying less for albums, the industry will collapse and bands (read: record companies) will get less money!"
The simple solution is to make good songs, worth paying for, then money will be made.
