That Suzanne Video

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

:) Let's hope so yeah !
No matter how much the older recordings get 'digitally remastered' , ( not just from the Sisters , but from any band ) ,
the difference between something that is newly recorded with the latest techniques is very obvious .
Also , it seems to me , as an artist/musician it must be mindblowing to
be able to record something with the present-day technique ...

Oh , and if that Suzanne vid really was just the teaser for a dvd then we missed out on something truly fantastic !

It's strange to think von's not comfortable with new technologies considering the amount of times the Doc has been upgraded. But if he's insistant on Voyetra's Sequencer Plus being the best app for recording, it's no wonder he's not willing to move on. I used to use Digital Orchestrator Plus and found it to be extremely limited unless you had a full suite of external sound processors. Or in other words, it's only really useful in an old, fully equipped studio. Most studios now use Pro Tools or Logic and there are only minor differences between all the available DAWs and they all seem to be pretty much based on Cubase. It's not as if the basics of recording have changed in any way.

(From the official site)
Computer software becomes an extension of human neurophysiology if it's good and you work at it, and the brain is always reluctant to lose part of itself and go through a pain-in-the-arse learning process with the replacement. However, new prosthetics quickly become naturalised...On the other hand, I'm not sure what place Voyetra has in a rigorous digital audio studio environment other than as a MIDI input tool. Horses for courses. And then back to the stable.
Ever get the impression that might be aimed at someone?

Old school technology can be very, very cool.

I do however prefer the output that comes(/came) out of Eldritch's ancient iron over the crap that recently came out of Reznor's Garageband any day.

Yeah, but at the time it wasn't ancient. Von was a state of the art guy for a while, and then he just stopped. Sometime in the mid 90's I guess.

Are you familiar with "chiptune" music - especially the stuff that's made using old Game Boys? Some if it's seriously mind-blowing... \m/ :von:

Since Eldo appears to be a Linux guy now, maybe he'll be trying out some opensource stuff for putting together a DAW on a free software basis.
I had a look at some FAQs myself some time ago and it seems there's some halfways usable software out already, of course not as polished and featureful as the commercial products but with a better attitude. Some professional audio hardware (RME Hammerfall cards etc.) have been supported by Linux for years.
Would also be a lot more in the DIY spirit of the Sisters.

Buy, but...doesn't the 'D' stand for doing things? How would that be in the Sisters spirit?

Seriously though, you're right. I've been reading for a while that you can cobble together a pretty serious studio in Linux. Here's hoping....Oh, wait a minute. The website says he's got a ProTools rig. He's just lazy :)

Eff-all, I would imagine. :)
If I told them once, I told them a hundred times to put 'Spinal Tap' first and 'Puppet Show' last.

Yeah, but it doesn't say if he's actually taken it out of the packaging, set it up and started playing around with it yet. :innocent:
