March Violets gig

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

Do you know of any hotels ?

The Poly (or met uni) is a great venue - the very hall where I first saw that other drum-machine based Leeds beat combo. Coupla great boozers next door too, and the Subculture club is just down the road, so if the aftershow-party is a bit iffy at the Poly you can always head there for another slice of Leeds alt.culture  :notworthy:

Unfortunately I'm not in a position to offer crash space out anymore. Soz folks. :|

I 'think' that was the Uni, not the Poly, but I could be wrong.

I was wondering much the same, so I hopped on their MySpace for a quick listen.

Reckon I'll be joining Quiffy in the bar.
If I told them once, I told them a hundred times to put 'Spinal Tap' first and 'Puppet Show' last.

its an old story, well past its sell by date, but to briefly recap: i saw them live a long time ago & thought they were utter arse. the problem began when i commented as such on a forum that contained a review of the gig, to which one of the band responded in a particularly ridiculous, sanctimonious and, frankly, childish manner...

however, that was a loooooong time ago, and i understand they've been through a pretty sweeping line up change since then, so my initial thoughts about them are probably irrelevant these days. i freely admit that i haven't seen or heard them in their current incarnation...

to further muddy the waters, a friend of mine has a brother who joined the band fairly recently (or at least he was involved last time i heard anything about it :?). i've met previously and he's a thoroughly decent chap, so i'll cut them some slack for that ;) :innocent:

having said all that, i'll concede that in the yorkshire area they area a very safe punt in terms of crowd pulling power. they have a fanbase that is larger than you'd expect from a contemporary goff band, and i'm positive they will drag along quite a few of their travelling fans for this (and fair play to the band for pulling that one off). as such its a shrewd marketing move by the violets and in truth, they will probably bring more people than 25men ;)

hmm, let's see how many more people i can alienate in one thread :innocent:
