R.I.P The Devonshire Arms

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

I know what you mean in that I get annoyed that most modern goths don't understand their roots. I'm 20 yet made to feel like I have an ancient taste when I ask current "goths" if they like the sisters and they reply with a puzzled look. But then at the same time goth must also evolve and change and progress. If it didn't progress it would be defunct as a genre stuck in the past that didn't stand the test of time.

But I think goth will always be around as a very dynamic, fascinating sub culture with a music style that is infact becoming broader and broader as days go by. Goth in some peoples eyes may only stand as meanign anything with a hint of darkness in it, but then at least gothic culture has had it's influence on so much.

 Bloody Hell daggs, where've you been?
Being brave is coming home at 2am half drunk, smelling of perfume, climbing into bed, slapping the wife on the arse and saying,"right fatty, you're next!!"

LOL! Good ole Maisey. Goth for 2 minutes, desperately clinging onto a forgotten scene that happened before he was born!!

London was sooo far behind the rest of Britian when it came to Goth. And regardless of the greats that Leeds spawned, Luton gave us UK Decay earlier than the Sisters - so nurrrrr!

Let the petty arguements beging!

Maisey I feel your pain....
I have been through the mourning process a few times in the last 20ish year ( ) since I headed down this path.

Friends here and overseas have all experienced the same thing. We mourn for the velvet-lined clubs with bats on the ceiling, house-brew-punch at the bar, TSOM on high rotation and a scene with a sense of humour.

Sadly... boogeying down with a lot of teen-EMOs at alcohol/drug free events is really not for us...... And yes, the mortgage, old knees and fear of looking like a pillock in a room full of young fluro-striped kids rather prevents me and significant other from braving the new wild frontier.

Slimelight has its detractors, but its got the tunes, its got the smoke machines, its got the crowd, and its got enough drugs to kill Africa's entire Elephant population.

I usually go there when gigs overrun and I miss the last train back to Norwich and use their sofas to sleep on
