Johnny Cash

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

Yeah, he had just been released from hospital after a two week stay, very sad.

John Ritter of Three's Company fame died last nite too.

Thanks "Izzy" - I had no idea the guy was so 'prolific' - I always thought he was a "one hit wonder" - I guess I was wrong - again!

I think "Kazaa" will be a little busy for a while ;-)

Can I just ask, though, what's so 'special' about the stuff he did?

I'm not asking this to be inflammatory, honest, I just don't quite 'get' his music!

I hope this doesn't mean I have no soul (man), but if anybody can explain why he's such a legend then I'd appreciate it :notworthy: I know I can become a convert, but clearly it'll take a bit of work... ;D

:urff: ;D

I would usually insult the very fibre of your soul for a post like that, but seeing as it took you 20 years to get into The Smiths I'll hold out hope for you.

My advice is to start off with his last two albums, "American III: Solitary Man" and "American IV: The Man Come Around". They're probably the most accessable from rock point of view. They have some great cover versions, although his voice was starting to fail.

For two of the best live albums by anyone ever get "Live In Folsom Prison" and "San Quentin". Even if you don't get the music you've got to respect the atmosphere of the recording and the balls of going out in front of a prison audience and taking their side.

Hope that helps.
