Sexiest.... Singers, Guitarists or Drummers...

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

Prompted by SG's comments on another thread....

i dont think stage presence has anything at all to do with looks.
sure theres a certain amount of attention paid to anyone who meets the basic criteria of "attractiveness" i suppose.but the media in all its forms is flooded now with the typical white teeth,scatily/scantily clad blah blah blah.its nothing new and its boring.

i prefer something with a little mystery, you know?where theres something left to the imagination.
people who are real individuals, unique, and dont sell themselves to the mainstream marketing machine have presence.

take Prince...theres a bloke who has one huge mountain to climb in the basic attractiveness stakes.mans tiny for a start.
but he has a personality which is bigger than anything else.it transcends this.on stage,he is without doubt the main attraction.forget the women tottering about in next to nothing, its him that draws the eye.
quite appart from the fact that hes one of the finest musicians, there is nobody else like him at all.
he is the best,at being him and he hasnt ever diluted what and who he is with mainstream b*llocks even when he went off on a more (ahem)hip-hop/r'n'b tangent later in his career.
you know its a Prince song even when hes not fronting it himself but has written it and [passed it on to someone else, you know its a Prince performance your watching on vidoe/dvd/tv even instantly because he+his ways/style etc etc are so uniquely him.

so to condense it all down, its the size of your personality and self expression that counts i think.not your six pack.

daring to be the real you in the face of an entire audience or whatever and not taking the easy route and masking yourself behind the latest bland fashion or equally as such inventing a very noticeable diversion in your appearance as a way of hiding who you are too.
in the end the images fad and crack because theres only so long anyone can keep up a fals identity and its at that point, when people realise you arent what you pertained to be(unless you've already fallen by the wayside under the pressure of it all)that they begin to look elsewhere.

Prince is one of the few examples i can think of off the top of my head who hasnt fallen into the trap in anyway.

he plays guitar as well doent he;so is relevant to this thread

I have to say that in terms of sheer 'personality' - creating an electricity that can't really be explained but which you just can't keep yer eyes off then it has to be a certain Mr Johnny Rotten circa 76-78.

I know this may seem a rather cliched choice, and no I never saw 'em live in their original incarnation or any other but I have seen various vids etc and he's amazing. He just looks scary and spooky and completely wired and is impossible to ignore. Some thing which can't be said about so many frontmen/women these days.

God, I'm sounding old. :innocent:

For me it's the man who plays bass. Something very sensuous ...I cant' spell that word! about basslines. Hence, my love of Lucretia and (Mish), amoung others.

The only front men for me are....you all already know..

Andrew followed closely by Zodiac. While I love there work, I am much more facinated by their minds. Really, I am!!!! Stop laughing at me...

And I have to agree with SH on Prince. God is he sexy....and talented!!!

I notice that no Women have been listed yet?

How about the reliable miss Tori Amos

I must agree with Lou Reed and Dave Gahan and perhaps Pete Steel (Type O Negative)

@ A.T.G-
coincidentally i was in middle of replying with just the same observation around tea time but only got so far thru pondering when was caclled away to more pressing mattrers.
but althoug it requires a lot more thought when it comes to females i came up with these few-
Janis Joplin-huge voice and couple that with the energy she put into her delivery when singing amounts to a whole shed load of passion from a relatively diminutive woman which when performing culdnt be ignored.

Annie Lennox-very distinctive voice, very distinctive stage persona;especially during the eighties if anyone else recalls her and dave stewarts image experiments.i believe she was at one point voted one of the worlds most beautifull women during that time too.about the butch ginger hair period.remember that time very well because as a child it struck me as very odd that a woman who so much looked more like a man than a woman had been voted as a beautifull woman.

Kate Bush-similar era as Annie, again very distinctive voice from tiny woman.if you really listen to her sing she has a very smooth way of slipping from mid range to high without it sounding awkward or strangled(i.m.h.o anyway).with Kate tho for me,its equally the voice and the lyrics too.compared to the regular mainstream stuff she was telling some pretty off the wall tales in her tunes.and who can forget the zena warrior princess-esque vid eh?complete with disproportioned broad sword and leatherette basque affair.nice.

I really like 'Heat' magazine. Have you ever read it ? it's a real laugh.

to the subject of the thread. Not many people do it for me these days. Eldritch is very compelling. I used to think Huey FLC used to be a dish but he's kinda lost it. Mike Patten is sexy. Not in his pooing phase but now. I heard him in an interview, I was expecting some creep but he was sound.
I dunno, they don't make rawk stars like they used to.

@Serendipityhaven :-)

I totally agree with Kate Bush - where would Miss Amos with out Miss Bush!

The problem I see arrising from this tread is its all very subjective as to who the members of My Heartland find "sexy". BTW I am a bit drunk on "Chilean Shiraz" - Which is nice!

I used to be a big fan of Danielle Dax - who I always considered Cool more than Sexy!

I have a question for the group - is "Leonard Cohen" considered "Sexy"? - I am a hugh fan - his lyrics cannot be bettered IMHO - but is he "Sexy"?

lol,heres another one then.
Angus Young.i rate him as a guitar player,as a live performer who is hugely entertaining whilst also(once again)rather tiny.there is no question of a doubt that he rocks big style, and does so with his tongue placed firmly in his cheek(see trade mark school boy uniform),but i dont in anyway find him remotely alluring.
having said that, that may change if i ever had the opportunity of speaking at length with the man.who knows.

@A.T.G-
did you know there was an International Leonard Cohen "Meetup" Day?

not that my mind is full of useless trivia today at all
