500 Internal Server Error

For you to give feedback to the Heartland moderators. Wish lists, fault reports, etc. You may get an answer, you may not. As in all things, it largely depends on how nicely you ask the people in charge... You're welcome.

i dont get it at all - i just dont see any errors. sometimes its a bit slow, but i dont ever see any '500 errors' :?

i've moved hotsing companies enough f*cking times - i'm not moving again. it costs me a fortune and we had to leave the last one because we use up too much bandwidth

please, just hang on in there. i'll see if the hosting co can help...

:(
Thanks for all your efforts QB :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy:

It's all very much appreciated.

I'm sure we'll all hang in there.

Don't know if this helps at all, but it seems to go very slow about 15:00BST to 15:30BST these days, just after it seems to do a clear out of the "View posts since last visit" list.

Like I said, very good and thanks very much. :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy:

i might just upgrade to the latest release candidate of phpbb3 and see if that fixes any of the issues

You always do great Barry! :notworthy:

If nothing can be found about the errors it's hard to heal.
Better slow with errors now and then, than no HL at all...

No pop at you Barry as I'm trying to be constructive elsewhere.

By not clicking on the post I had just made ...I got the 500 internal error but the post had been made. I assumed it hadn't (nothing appearing down below) so it appeared three times. I've since edited but all the more reason for people with probs to go look at

Not trying to badger anyone here, but I have to say that ever since HL changed hosting, it's been slow as a geriatric snail and sometimes just doesn't load. Got the 500 and 404 errors often enough to report it in. Seems like there IS something dodgy going on, Barry; sorry...

i'll get on to it.

from my hosting company:
Dreamhost wrote:It appears some scripts on your site are being killed by our process watcher program. This keeps the CPU/Memory load balanced for all users on the server.

Unfortunately, while we can't change the settings on that, there are ways to reduce the CPU and Memory footprint of your site.

One is to make sure you've disabled hotlinking of your images.

Sometimes the culprit is robot "crawlers", such as googlebot, which like to get caught in loops on some dynamic sites, causing the load to jump on the server.

You might find the following articles in our wiki useful in helping you reduce the load your sites put on the server:

http://wiki.dreamhost.com/index.php/Fin ... eavy_Usage

http://wiki.dreamhost.com/index.php/CPU_Resources_FAQ

and

http://wiki.dreamhost.com/index.php/Bot ... d_crawlers

Please feel free to let me know if you have any other questions.
so now i'm looking into ways of stopping hotlinking direct to images, and also into the cpu usage stats :)

yeah, but this doesnt seem to do anything:

Code: Select all

RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^$
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^http://(www\.)?myheartland.co.uk/.*$ [NC]
RewriteRule \.(gif|jpg|jpeg|bmp|png|js|css)$ - [F]
thats what the htaccess says now, but you can still hotlink to images :?

I think you need to \ the .s in the URL:

Code: Select all

RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^http://(.+\.)?myheartland\.co\.uk/ [NC]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^$
RewriteRule .*\.(jpe?g|gif|bmp|png|js|css)$ - [F]
*Edit: just did a similar thing with my site, and it stopped hotlinking, but gave me 500 errors for all the other pages  so I removed it again.

Edit again: you might want to try

Code: Select all

RewriteRule .*\.(jpe?g|gif|bmp|png)$ - [F]
in the last line. Do you really need to be blocking external access of your css and javascript files?

third edit:

Code: Select all

RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^http://(.+\.)?myheartland\.co\.uk/ [NC]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^http://(.+\.)?markfiend\.com/ [NC]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^$
RewriteRule .*\.(jpe?g|gif|bmp|png)$ - [F]
works for me (I'm allowing hotlinking here cos I use my own smileys ;) can you see this guy OK? -> Image )

perhaps it just likes you; saying that, unquestioning devotion and obssessve idolization are rare traits in an internet server...though occassionally some of them do become dangerous lunatic stalkers from bratislava.

@9.06 (ish) CET
Actually, tbh the whole forum seems to be up & down recently & although I login & check the "log me in automatically" box, there are time when I come back to find I am logged out for some reason. & if I am logged in, it can be a bit like walking through treacle.
I put it down to a shabby connection this end, but I am able to potter around on cureconnections no problem & my torrents don't hang either.
Weird... :?
Cheers.

Not a 500, but another odd thing just happened when trying to load a topic.

clicky (as it's pretty huge)

Is that just because of the lack of speed too?
