THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. Pardon my ignorance, but who exactly was/is Lucas Fox? I know about Patricia, James Ray and Alan Vega, but I've never been sure where Lucas came from. Was he part of The Performance as well? And did he really play drums when the Doktor was present anyway?

I've also always been very skeptical about James Ray playing guitar, as I can't for the life of me hear any on the album.
Any more of that and we'll be round your front door with the quick-setting whitewash and the shaved monkey.

And this may be of interest too;
The Sisterhood released one LP, Gift, in 1986 on Eldritch's own Merciful Release label, which includes "Giving Ground" and four other songs. Not named after the English word but rather the German word for poison, Gift is quite simple with its long, droning rhythms and ill sentiment ("what you have lost can never be found" and "trust lies broken, and the truth is drowned") towards the former Sisters members, especially That Guitarist.

On "Jihad" Patricia Morrison recites the numbers 2-5-0-0-0 several times. According to Eldritch this is a reference to the amount of money that he won from The m*****n in the civil courts after suing them over the ownership of the name "The Sisterhood".[citation needed]

A version of "Colours" with Eldritch singing was later included as a b-side of "This Corrosion" and then a bonus track on the CD of The Sisters of Mercy album Floodland.

On "Finland Red, Egypt White", Lucas Fox reads the technical specifications of an AK-47 rifle to several minutes of sheer repetition.

The hit single "This Corrosion" that appeared on "Floodland" was originally planned for the Gift album, harboring the same vitriol towards the betrayers of Eldritch's trust.

Thanks. I'd actually seen the second one but not the first. Motorhead eh? Still surprised that AE used a drummer, especially alongside the Doktor (although I've seen that German performance using a band with a drummer.)

Anyone have more definite info on the guitar work on the album?
Any more of that and we'll be round your front door with the quick-setting whitewash and the shaved monkey.

Lucas Fox only does the recital of the AK47 manual - no drumming. I think he just happened to have some good speed that day and ended up in the studio. :wink:

Thanks guys. The wiki says Lucas did the recital and drummed too but just the recital sounds more likely.

Didn't know Torch started as a Sisterhood song.

The Sisterhood was a short-lived English musical project, consisting of Andrew Eldritch (writer and producer), drum machine Doktor Avalanche and the "Chorus of Vengeance" of Lucas Fox (drums), Patricia Morrison (bass and vocals), James Ray (guitar and vocals) and Alan Vega (synthesizer and vocals). Eldritch does not sing lead vocals on the record.

Why would I use it when I can have others like you do my bidding?

In any event, I have the Sisterhood CD and there is nothing about who makes up the Chorus, while a Wiki reference is anything but the end all of definitive sources. Much more accurate than given credit for, but still unpredictably erroneous. Why anyone would take hearsay about Sisters lore as the definitive truth is beyond any reasonable explanation.

I think it's Julianne and am happy in my bubble, thanks anyway. I personally think James Ray is actually Gary Marx as well so that's who you're dealing with.

i can hear that it's not julianne though....and read (on the official release) that it's not her.
