Turn Around:- the lost song?

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

Hi there

What a lovely forum. Jolly good.

Seems to be a lot of very knowledgable folks here.

Years ago, my friend saw the Sisters perform on The Tube, the long-running 80s Channel 4 series. Apparently, they did a song called Turn Around.

Whenever Eldritch sang this phrase, 'turn around', Hussey and Marx would do just that and go 'doo doo'. Sounds silly. Sounds like it could be Walk Away. Except it wasn't.

Never found any info to suggest this ever took place. Over to you!

Thanks

If I remember correctly from my hazy eighties they performed once on the Tube and the song was Walk Away. But like you said the lyrics doesn't contain the words 'turn around'. And certainly not Doo-doo. If they ever performed a song called Turn Around I'm sure we would have heard of it though...

And, hey, welcome to My Heartland

yeah. it's seems a bit odd to me that they would do a one off of a song on a TV show, surely they would've used the chance to promote whatever the new single was at the time?

I'm sure you're right.

The only reason this has been in my head all these years is that this guy was a grade-a sisters nut for so long.

By about 89 he had every bootleg and demo I've ever seen or heard of. By 91 he had them all on CD and by the time Vision Thing came out, he'd lost interest. :P

Having said that, he was also convinced that the people who did Pale Empress, forget their names, were also Sisters. I believed that for AGES. :innocent:

Nah, reckon that was another glitch in his otherwise awesome powers of sisterhood.

He was also one of the fans who got to do Jesus and Mary Chain feedback during their riot years. And he thought of their name. Apparently.

Now I come to think about it, he did lie an awful lot.

Oh well. Thought I'd try Heartland forums for old times sake.

thanks

That'd be The Merry Thoughts - the most blatant Sisters copyists ever IMHO.

@ Scardy :notworthy:

The Merry Thoughts were still very good live and their material is great IMHO - Sisters copyists or not!

I saw them a couple of years back. They weren't anything special, but they are one of the better rock type goth bands around (as opposed to the darkwave type!)

The "Turn Around" song would be Bonnie Tyler's "Total Eclipse of the Heart", I presume.

Taking Ms Tylers origin into account it must be Swansea County Council! ;-)

As far as I know, the Sisters never performed live on the tube, although the Walk Away promo video was shown.

Like Dan said they were about the only band of that same "alt" genre & time who didn't perform on the Tube . New model army , Play dead , Danse society , Southern Death cult , The Cult ,Gun club , Cramps , m*****n etc etc

Hussey was of course in Dead or alive though & we all know what their big hit was

early demos of no time to cry (such as that on eth kid jenses (or is it peel?) sessions) use the lines "turn around" and "all around you" quite a lot...

maybe it was an early performance of "no time to cry" and he was getting the show mixed up with something else?

or else he was lying? ;)

I'm sure Von would like the Tyler song.

Makes me remember, when the 1985 split happened, that Waynetta Husshead moaned that Von was listening to Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Nicks, whereas Hussey and Adams were listening to Motorhead. So apparently, Von wanted to record some woossy soft-rock stuff, whereas the m*****n were going to ROCK HARD!!!

Hummmm...which of the aforementioned artistes went on to record Doctor Jeep, Vision Thing, Ribbons and Lucretia, and which went on to record Butterfly on a Wheel, Hands Across the Ocean, some crud called You Make me Happy, and stuff I just couldn't even listen to all the way through?
