Alright people. My usually encyclopaedic knowledge of muzak is seriously lacking in this area. All I know is that lots of people whose musical opinions I respect are really into it.
So tell me about it. What should a beginner listen to? Will it improve my life in measurable ways? Why were Bauhaus in fear of it?
I wanna know what Dub is! I want you to show me!

Anyway, Miss B, as far as dub goes, I'd like to say I know a bit, but I man in arms Missa Koen can probably direct you better-ways.
That said, if you want a pick of some of the best dubs I've got, jus' gimme a PM.

They had a track called "In Fear Of Dub".christophe wrote:in fear?boudicca wrote:Why were Bauhaus in fear of it?

Well I say "track"... "arsing around with their effects and a reel-to-reel tape of In Fear Of Fear" might be a more appropriate way of describing it
Not quite "Fishcakes" but close, am I right or a meringue, Unkle Jam-es?
So gimme some classix that I ought to download. Tracks preferably, so I can get a flavour, dip my toe in the water if you will...

I don't care for reggae much, myself. Have you ever tried the down-tempo dubstep (or whatever the f*ck it is ) ofweebleswobble wrote:I cannae stand any of that stuff, reggie leaves me so cold. However, full respect to those that do .

You do need good subs to fully appreciate that album though, lots of things going on in the bass bits of it...
Anyhoo, I'd say Lee 'Scratch 'Perry, King Tubby and the likes, but I'll leave it to Koen to fully educate you

That's another genre that only just *piqued* my interest as I was reading about it in the New Statesman (aye! ) on the way back up from London. Mind you its praises were being sung by someone who was simultaneously slagging of the fabulous new Portishead album (which I haven't actually heard yet but just know is ace ).SINsister wrote:down-tempo dubstep (or whatever the f*ck it is )
I was thinking of giving that Burial record a try...

we have LOADS of lee scratch perry here.
don;t go and see him live though. waste of time. plus he, in all seriousness, baptised the audience with his bottle of water.
