recycle CDs?

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

I am asking this seriously, but I fully expect a flood of joke responses. Nevertheless, here it goes:

Is there any way to recycle bad or unwanted CDs? I have a stack of them from bad burn jobs or junk mail from AOL and the like, but I hesitate just to throw them away. Any suggestions on what can be done with them? Recycled somewhere or somehow? Converted into something, preferably useful? Can anyone here use them for a art project????

To follow up my own post, I have heard that they can be hung by string in friut trees to scare away birds. At least when we had a cherry tree, that was an option.

I have a whole stash of them in the cupboard to use as coasters. In the past three years, I never once have used them.... :roll:

What makes you think that I need something to look cool? :wink:

I have thinking about this very subject - I recycle all that I can, or am able to too! - By this I mean Paper, Glass, Plastic, Carry Bags but I have not seen anywhere where I can recycle CDs

I have about 1000 use less burned/non working cds around - I used to work in On Site IT support - they are copies of basic OS - I dont want to just thrown away. I have heard that you can get them crushed and they are then used in gardens or something?

There must be somewhere in the UK and elsewhere where they can be safely disposed of?

I also am heitant to use them as coasters. My son may get the wrong idea and grab any CD in my collection to put under his cup. I prefer not to give him any ideas.

I copied the outlines of my favourite guitar pick onto a dead CD and cut some ten new ones out of it. After grinding down the thickness a bit, smoothening the edges and a bit of polishing they work quite nicely. They just don't stand too much playing. But my CD writer produces enough junk.. ;D

I know! Use 'em as body scrapers! Bathe like the ancient Romans did. Just douse yourself with olive oil, hang out in a steam bath for awhile, then scrape away the fouled oil with the cds. Effective cleansing, for mere pennies! You're welcome. ;D

Hand them in to your local childrens nursery school, they can use them for x mas decorations and general arts and crafts.
