Sgt. Pepper's Piper

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

An intriguing thesis?

While he gained fame as the picker of pecks of pickled peppers, the later years of his life were marred by syphilis and alcoholism.

It doesn't stand up to 'Piper At The Gates Of Dawn'. :D

Agreed. If by "Sgt Pepper" you mean "Psalm 69". ;)

I recall some Weegie saying it'd change my life. It certainly makes the drive to school more fun.

SFOS starts with the cracking bassline that the Chemical Brothers nicked for 'Block Rocking Beats' but rapidly goes downhill.

Set The Controls for the Heart of the Sun has been resurrected, polished off and made an absolute delight by Mr. W.

maybe I should revisit Corporal Clegg... nah!

Black Russians actually. Anyways, to clarify:

While the Beatles were recording Sgt. Pepper, Syd Barrett's Pink Floyd were recording their first album Piper at the Gates of Dawn in the studio next door. Since Sgt. Pepper seems a fairly significant change in musical direction for Paul and the boys, I've been wondering how much of this may have been due to bumping into Syd Barrett in the toilets...

Aw now, there's at least 4 of their most cosmic faaar-out-maaaan numbers on Saucerful (I'm thinking More Light, Remember, Set the Controls and Saucerful itself), and Jugband Blues is the most poignant farewell to (...and from...) Syd that could be possible. Cut it some slack, folks! :D
If I told them once, I told them a hundred times to put 'Spinal Tap' first and 'Puppet Show' last.

Trivia - the late great John Peel used the phase 'set the controls...' to outro Loop's session of 'Sunburst'. It was great then and it's still great now

I had a few Loop records 'back in the day' Remember seeing them in Exeter around 89/90/91 - damn fine band.

I saw them tune up for half an hour, complain they weren't happy with the sound and walk off... :|
