Sisters songs of Unbridled Magnificence

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

so - sisters songs of unbridled magnificence....

There are a few, but I'd like to start with Adrenochrome...

From the pulse raising opening to the eponymous lyric, confident quiet bit, slashing lead & rhythm guitar, tasteful bass and joyous melody. The melody is indeed genius.

And the title - Eldritch conjures a motif perfectly. relates to to huxley of course, and fear and loathing. decent company.

Presented in all it's lofi wonderment. I could be speaking out of turn here, but I think it's proper timeless.

ps I searched for an extant thread, couldn't find one, merge me, I care not... *looks askance* :P

Don't forget the chorus - it's like a "Hey Hey We're The Monkees" for the speed generation!

I don't think we've done "unbridled magnificence" before, by the way. We've done favourite/best/worst/underrated/overrated/setlists/YCBTO, but "unbridled magnificence" seems new.

Suggestion #2: Blood Money.

The slithery opening, the feeling of something you don't really want to know about going on under the surface, the aura of sinister menace, the walloping drums, the grinding underneath with pretty bits on top, "flowers to burn", you can almost smell the fumes off this one.
If I told them once, I told them a hundred times to put 'Spinal Tap' first and 'Puppet Show' last.

If you're talking Magnificance look no further than The Temple Of Love.

I refuse to post in this thread until the f**king official live news page gets updated. I could make my decisions spontaneously in split seconds, but my employers and co-workers are urging me to give them some details on my suggested time off work this summer. :|

One of the first I heard back then which remains special:
Alice.

Can't help to mention the magnificent Ribbons as well.

Originals: "Marianne", "You Could Be The One" (and I could be the minority on that), "Nine While Nine", "Some Kind Of Stranger", "Temple of Love", "Giving Ground" (does that one count?).

Covers: I always liked their versions of "Emma" and "Jolene".

Body And Soul. Simple but sublime.

And Dominion. The music is fantastic but the clever wordplay and references to Ozzymandias are every bit as good.
Any more of that and we'll be round your front door with the quick-setting whitewash and the shaved monkey.

The whole of the Reptile House EP.

Plus 20 or 30 others in joint second place.

Euro 2008 tune? Well, that depends on the match. I'm reserving "Fix" for slightly impartial referees, "Possession" for a sound track for teams who can pass properly, and "Crash and Burn" for the England's Euro 2008 song.

Or how about "you're going home in a f--king ambulance"?

They don't have one called that? Nuts.

Nah, I don't have any real emotion for any Sisters songs.. that's as good as you're getting from me.

It seems as though covers are acceptable here, so I say Knockin' on Heaven's Door, but Ghostrider, Gimme Shelter and Temple of Love are close ...

For someone who has over 6000 posts that's a real sign of 'no real emotion' and why pick one of the worst Sisters songs (there's three by the way, all on the first single)? Not being difficult or obscure are we?

Anyway my pick has to be Driven Like The Snow, Nine While Nine, Reptile House EP.

The vast majority of tracks (even those off Vision Thing) I reckon come under the heading of Unbridled.... But the two that I first thought of when I saw the thread title were AFTERHOURS and DRIVEN LIKE THE SNOW.
They both give the feeling of having joined the story half way in and not seeing the end. In some kind of film noir setting with a cheerfully depressing backing track.
