The eastern world, it is exploding
Violence flarin’, bullets loadin’
You’re old enough to kill, but not for votin’
You don’t believe in war, but what’s that gun you’re totin’
And even the Jordan River has bodies floatin’
But you tell me
Over and over and over again, my friend
Ah, you don’t believe
We’re on the eve
of destruction.
Don’t you understand what I’m tryin’ to say
Can’t you feel the fears I’m feelin’ today?
If the button is pushed, there’s no runnin’ away
There’ll be no one to save, with the world in a grave
[Take a look around ya boy, it's bound to scare ya boy]
And you tell me
Over and over and over again, my friend
Ah, you don’t believe
We’re on the eve
of destruction.
Yeah, my blood’s so mad feels like coagulatin’
I’m sitting here just contemplatin’
I can’t twist the truth, it knows no regulation.
Handful of senators don’t pass legislation
And marches alone can’t bring integration
When human respect is disintegratin’
This whole crazy world is just too frustratin’
And you tell me
Over and over and over again, my friend
Ah, you don’t believe
We’re on the eve
of destruction.
Think of all the hate there is in Red China
Then take a look around to Selma, Alabama
You may leave here for 4 days in space
But when you return, it’s the same old place
The poundin’ of the drums, the pride and disgrace
You can bury your dead, but don’t leave a trace
Hate your next-door neighbor, but don’t forget to say grace
And… tell me over and over and over and over again, my friend
You don’t believe
We’re on the eve
Of destruction
Mm, no no, you don’t believe
We’re on the eve
of destruction.

I'm pretty shocked by it all I have to say. I like to keep a cosy little image of myself as being someone who keeps her finger on the the pulse of world politics, but I did not see this one coming at all
There's a man with a mullet going mad with a mallet in Millets
Would it be cynical to note that the fireworks started right about the time of the Olympic opening ceremony?
Nice work from the Russian PR department
Edit: Russia are now attacking locations way away from Ossetia and another separatist region has flared up. Doesn't sound much like "defending peacekeepers" anymore.

Soldiers of Islam are loading their guns
They're getting ready
but the Russian tanks are mowing them down
They're getting ready
There's children in Africa with Tommy guns
Getting ready
While the Islam armies are beckoning on
They're getting ready
There's a burning sun
And it sets in the western world
But it rises in the east
And pretty soon
It's gonna burn your temples down
While the heads of state are having their fun
Are they ready?
We're looking at the world through the barrel of a gun
Are we ready?
And you stand there beating on your little war drum
Are you ready?
And it won't be long before your time has come
Are you ready?
Warhead, warhead, warhead
Warhead, warhead, warhead
Warhead, warhead, warhead
Warhead, warhead, warhead
Well I don't know what it is but i feel something coming
Stuck in the middle of the Yankees and the Russians
Better get moving guns are getting loaded
Fast to the border where the tanks are a rolling
There's a nation in fear another nation crying
One nation killing and another nation dying
Talk about guns and escalation bye bye planet let alone a nation
Bizzare how lyrics written over 25 years ago have so much truth in them today
Dim, through the misty panes and thick green light,
As under a green sea, I saw him drowning.
As under a green sea, I saw him drowning.
This was on July 15th. That doesn't possibly relate to the russian arms show taking place now, hm?
This story stinks, Mr. Putin! And it does so from your very direction as well.

Or ideals to work towards.Bartek wrote:peace, love and flowers ?

@ Bartek..perhaps you are correct. However, as a parent, one does tend to hope for things like that.
@Markfiend... Sad thing is that Megadeth may have had it correct when they wrote "Peace Sells, But Who's Buying". War = $$$ for those who certainly don't need it. Pity!

@eotunun...I , personally, wouldn't call that picture "politics". To me, it's more like a tragic loss of human life. Feel free to correct me, but aren't governments supposed to protect their citizens, not destroy them? Or am I just hopelessly naive?
Well, I would have to disagree with Stalin. The death of any innocent is always a tragedy, be it 1 or 1 million. However, the death of a million pedophiles would be cause for a celebration. Just my opinion, not trying to offend anyone!
@Bartek...please keep in mind that I live across the pond where the line between politically correct/incorrect is extremely thin. Criminals ususally have more rights than victims. I had the "not meant to offend" bit because I know that there are people in the world who believe in giving all criminals a 2nd chance, no matter the crime. As for the quote, I took it as it was written. If there is some meaning behind it, please explain. I had never seen/heard it before.
yeah, yeah i know that, read newspapers, watch tv, i'm also studying a law that kind of thinking is very, even extremely, popular there. now it's very rude to say truth (what a cheap rhyme )
about that quote: Mr. Dzhugashvili , as we all know was tyrant, so we may read that words in two context:
1) World War II
2) the time when he was a leader of CCCP - he stood behind mass murder of his real and imaginary enemy - by a millions of Russian Peeps.
in fact, nowadays like never before, nobody cares about that, we watch tv/read newspapers and just go by - we of course couldn't do nothing about a fact of somebody death.

@ Bartek...thanks for background on quote. Based on what I was taught about Stalin in school, I guess I'd go with the 2nd meaning. If I recall correctly, he was infamous for killing those he wanted out of his way or shipping them to Siberia to die slowly. I do think it's a shame that people have become so used to death/killing that they can turn a blind eye to it. Recently, in a city not far from me, 9 people were arrested for beating a disabled teenager to death. You would think that 1 out of the 9 would have had the common decency to prevent it. Question...is there any country that has a government that truly does what the citizens want?
