Next July will be 12 years of The Smurphs.
We are a bit jaded.
Its unlikely we will be able to top some recent gigs.
We are all busy with other projects.
We never got to headline a night at Whitby

We don't think a Sisters album release in imminent.

Makes you think, we certainly are.

Make sure you are free in july.

If you're gonna bow out (or even go on strike against dodgy goff venue promoters for 7 years, then come back with vague promises of playing again but never actually do), it sounds like a good time - while things are good.

It's a regret that I never got to see you more often, but if July's the time then you got one calendar with that month pre-booked round my way!

Just had a listen. Musically you sound spot on, always great to hear Walk Away with the full intro and Marian with the drone, so extra marks there too.

The vocals are not my cup of tea. Sorry. To these ears you've fallen right into the trap of "man with a headcold wearing a Darth Vader helmet at the bottom of a 50 foot well" that seems to blight a lot of tribute compilations. Von's singing voice (particularly on the older records) is actually a lot more high-pitched than popular mythology has it.

Otherwise though, keep up the good work!

The vocalist wanted to play the songs live as they are recorded as far as his voice. Our singer is acually singing in the same note range I think but our guys voice is a little different. Not much effect wise. Just a touch of light reverb and a little delay here and there on a few tracks. Lots on Train obviously! I (Fussey) do the background vox and Fussey guitar (+ebow).

He wanted to avoid singing an octive higher live and wanted to recreate the album feel. We're just having a blast doing it. On the Wire and Alice to follow later next week if the weather cools down enough for me to turn my equipment on without blowing a circuit! Hot here in Cali right now. Anyways, Hopefully on one takes this too seriously. Like I said before we're just doing it for fun and because we know lots of people have been asking when a sisters tribute would be playing here in SF. There's so many other cover bands here. Smurphs are too far away!

PS - MH, I don't think our singer can sing very much higher anyways! He has an incredibly deep voice and cracks every time he goes up!

I do like the singer's voice. It may be very different from Old Android's, but there's a lot of power and expression in it. Kudos for that! I love the raw bass sound, especially in your version of Alice, as well.

This is certainly the best compliment yet!

I'm Aleph, the vocalist in question.

We're doing our best at recreating songs that are very important to us and I'm sure to all of you as well.
How would we have found each other otherwise?

Well, we finally got our first show under our collective belts as The Reptile House. We got an opening slot on Halloween at a great venue with a great sound system. Good to finally get the ball rolling. More shows are being booked as I type this. We ended up learning FALAA 2 days before the show and ended up up opening up with it. Pics from the show at www.myspace.com/thereptilehaus We added a new section in the photos page called Postcards from nowhere near the chemist with artwork for our first promo mailer/handout. We're having a total blast doing this so I hope one day we can take our show on the road. Maybe a few European dates. Next 3 we're learning are Dominion MR/TOL and Lucrecia. I think Heartland, Gimme Shelter to follow shortly. Oh and we added On the wire to our songs in our demo section. Hopefully I'll see some of you at the SF show in a few weeks. We'll be out front handing out postcards from nowhere near the chemist right after the show.

great job -- from a born + bred san franciscan. i did a sisters fanzine out of my apartment on masonic + page back in 1985 or so. love the city. come to nyc.
