It's been exactly 20 years since the original "Temple Of Love" has been released.It was in October 1983.Later it reached number 2 on the UK Indie Chart hallmarking their early musical character.It broke them big all across Europe.It was also their very last independantly released single before signing the contract with the major Warner Bros's WEA label a year later.
Its 7-incher included the wonderful "Heartland" while its 12-incher completed the single with the best Rolling Stones cover ever made the haunting "Gimme Shelter".
Its black and green artwork is just splendid.One of the best singles covers I've ever seen.
What are your opinions about it now,20 years since its release?

Some of you will accuse me of being abrasive, or trying to rock the boat or be awkward or something, but in all honestly I have always disliked Temple of Love.
It's just... crap, and it always makes me laugh the way Von sings 'In the Temple of love love love love love', it's just ridiculous goth nonsense, it's one of the songs that ruined Vons reputation by stereotyping him as a po-faced doommonger.
Other sisters songs that everyone else seems to love but I hate:

I would say it DEFINED "ridiculous goth nonsense". And we loved it! Unfortunately, some people started taking things a bit too seriously.
Temple of Love was number 2 in the UK Independent charts for a long time in 1983, kept off the top by the biggest selling Independent single, and biggest selling 12 inch of any description, of all time. No shame there at all. The single was?

Am I mad, but I actually prefer the 7" version? I always thought it worked better as a short-sharp-shock, and, without wanting to overtly agree with Black Shuck (who is obviously stark raving ) I do find the choruses a bit wearying in the extended version.
If I told them once, I told them a hundred times to put 'Spinal Tap' first and 'Puppet Show' last.
