Ems... still expensive but try the East Midlands Trains website and putting in smaller journeys:emilystrange wrote:well, £87. something...
i.e.
Norwich - Peterborough rtn = £ 23.50
Peterborough - Nottingham rtn = £ 20.00
and
Nottingham - Manc (spit) rtn = £ 32.70
Total = £ 78.20.
That was just a very quick look and you can possibly do it even cheaper.

I think we're getting the National Express coach.

When are you (or anyone for that matter) landing in M/cr? We're aiming to get there about 4, biff around checking into the hotel etc. for a bit, then head out for some food before meeting up with everyone wherever/whenever.

I'm crash landing just after midday, I fully expect a tour of the finest manc shyte in the afternoon followed by a slap up lunch and a knee trembler behind the pub.

I'm hitting ground about half three, gimme an hour or so to get into the city and get my bearings, half an hour to do hotel type stuff, I expect to be available from 5 or thereabouts.
Speaking of which, have we decided on a kick-off venue yet?

If I told them once, I told them a hundred times to put 'Spinal Tap' first and 'Puppet Show' last.

you have two choices:
1) the salisbury - next to oxford road station
pros: good jukebox, bit of a rock/alt pub
cons: about 5 mins walk from the venue, bit of a rock/alt pub
2) the retro bar
pros: its the pub attached to the venue! the bar is cheap, and we'll be hanging about up & down stairs setting up from about 8ish
cons: it can be a bit studenty and the jukebox is so varied you can get some very odd sequences of songs
also, the retro has been struggling recently, yet through it all they have backed sin city and a selection of other alternative nights when in reality they could have booted us out and got in some bland student night with 4 x the punters
we wont be able to do much until 8ish anyway i'm afraid, so its entirely up to you

Marky makes an executive decision:
We may as well all meet up at the Retro bar then, it will save hassle, and there won't be anyone turning up at the Salisbury after we've all left to go to the Retro bar. We'll drift in piecemeal I imagine.
