Ever bought a record primarily cos of the sleeve design?

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Dread Locks Dread - Big Youth. Ok, so it was obviously reggae and I was going through a red, gold and green phase, but never heard any of his stuff and just loved the cover. Naked rasta masters roaring lion. Spare me the psycho-analysis, please. How about you? CDs don't seem to have quite the same impact, or do they?

Legalise It by Peter Tosh is somewhat appealling. Most of the Scratch Perry atrwork is superb too.

I always buy Lee Perry off the cover, then with fingers crossed that it's ok I listen to it soon as I get home. And so far I loved every single one! :D

Yep, Steve303! Bought "Legalise it" donkey's ago, bought some other really mad reggae stuff as well, the guys on the record must have been so stoned when they recorded the album, it's shocking! :lol:

I'll keep an eye out for it. The one I was talking about was bought in Piccadilly Records, Manchester about 10yrs ago, when they were still outside the Arndale, down the street from HMV (the biggest store on the corner near Picadilly Gardens). Used to spend a fortune in there (Dole Money too! :twisted: ) when I used to visit iccle bruv and Big Sista, when they were at Uni. Remember buying what I now think is a bootleg, said it was a jam session by Sly and the Revolutionaries/Upsetters and a few others at the Black Ark, every tune was an instrumental, but every tune must have been written/recorded while heavily stoned! :eek: :twisted:

Bought the second PiL album because it was called Metal Box and er, ...in a metal box. Designed like a movie film canister and containing the album in 3 x 12 vinyl format and a piece of paper about 3"x3" containing the song titles. Badly typed in lurid red on white. All lower case. Nice.
Loki was never worshiped as the other Gods,
Which is quite understandable.

hmm, yeah I've heard of people breaking the records inside trying to open the metal box.

No advice of cleaning it though, I just got the standard vinyl version.

There's something like the 'Curse Of The Mummy's Tomb' about it. After two broken nails and numerous abrassions, on the last occassion I did manage to open it, I taped it and it hasn't seen daylight in about 18 years. Probably just a pile of ashes now. Unless the box was lead-lined, and then I'm OK. :wink:
