the problem these days is not getting permission from a band but the site fees charged by venues and promoters. rifuckingdiculous. all corporate venues in NYC charge that s**t. ranges between $500 and $3000 per cam. I usually don't care as I avoid these s**t places from the start and enjoy my warehouse, loft and basement shows instead. but still, the situation is nothing short of pathetic.originalgoth wrote:When I lived in Ireland I filmed the entire gig of Morrissey a couple of years ago on my digi-cam without a problem from security & they were quite near me.dummkopf wrote:I think the days where one could pretty much do whatever one pleased to do with a digital still cam have come to an end. security staff is very well aware of people shooting video and they do stop them where- and whenever they can.
all that being said, here's a clip of New York City @ Irving Plaza Nov 3 2008
But then on the other side of that, I tried filming Human League in Dublin & got stopped by venue security & he took my camcorder off me but didn't take that tape out of it so I got about 8 songs of that gig.
Generally though, wherever possible I'll try & contact the band that I want to film & ask them if I can film the gig, that seems to work when you can contact someone from the band but that's not always easy if they haven't got a "Contact Us" button on their website.
New Model Army don't mind people filming their gigs even without asking, The m*****n wanted the rights to all footage I got of the 2 gigs I filmed.
I don't know what The Sisters want or don't want yet with regards my filming them in Portland & Seattle.
That's a great video of Alice

It's really easy now to download YouTube files on OSX as on Windows. Use Firefox as your browser, add it the "Video DownloadHelper" extension and here you go: https://addons.mozilla.org/fr/firefox/addon/3006bismarck wrote:Anything similar for Mac OSX that anyone knows about?originalgoth wrote: I came across this great bit of software yesterday that you use to download videos from anywhere on the internet including YouTube.
After that, you need a player cause Quicktime can't read FLV files. VLC Player can do the job: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-macosx.html
The question is: is it really necessary?
Pleased to read this. Personally, I haven't seen yet videos of Sisters live so clear! Ever. The YouTube versions of my montages are kind of a preview in comparison of what I got here, on my hard drive.Petseri wrote:Bravo to you for offering something otherwise unavaialble.
By the way, I could make the DivX versions available, but you'll need a good computer for playing them 'cause they're (as you could guess) in a 1280x720 resolution.
And I still don't know how I should share those. With a service like RapidShare? Via BitTorrent?

I think Dimeadozen won't allow divx sourced material but you could use an open tracker like mininova. Rapidshare is another options if you create a split archive with 100MB packages. Not to take any particular side in this i don't know why one should be disappointed if his efforts for filming for his own enjoyment and then sharing the footage are not appreciated by everyone. And why is not someone allowed to say his negative opinion. Why get offended? Why a million plebs jumping into the defense of the "selfLESS" sharer? You, again, want to have your cake and eat it too.
First you want to believe that LIFE is a result of chemical processes, without any real depth behind the reasoning, and then you still want to insist those chemical processes are able of selfLESS axion.
Whate'er. Me not likey.

anyhow big thanks for you Martin for taking the risk and giving a time and what is most important sharing. and you're right even official sisters video of "Suzanne" isn't that good.
No, it's because you're a sane and reasonable person.Bartek wrote:maybe it's because I'm foreign.

typical HL behaviour. someone voices criticism in connection with another HL'ers activities and gets pretty much jumped for it. kindergarten.
when I read the criticism I thought to myself, wow, why do you even care about what others do and share for free? this is not a product that needs a review, so the criticism was a bit uncalled for. on the other hand, to be frankly honest, I don't see much sense in shooting like 40 minutes of footage of incomplete songs myself. but I wouldn't hold it against whomever does it and likes doing it. their choice. do what you gotta do but be prepared that not everybody will be into it once stuff gets released to the public. don't act like you hold the holy grail of live footage in your hand because you certainly do not, and I mean no harm or disrespect by saying so. All I'm saying is that maybe ya'll should chill out a bit.

Exactly, dummkopf. On all parts.

No one's acting like they've got the holy grail of footage. The bottom line is that it's harmless fun. And what's the point in criticising harmless fun?dummkopf wrote:typical HL behaviour. someone voices criticism in connection with another HL'ers activities and gets pretty much jumped for it. kindergarten.

It's so easy to say that something is rubbish but for god sake, he really toke a risk and etc. and you just said, you waist your time it was pointless. You expect that he, a guy who hadn't got as much chance to see them, as we in Europe did and do and will do, gonna to waist all show and not enjoy it. Take his point of view before you start to yell.

This discussion needs to be over. There's no point in saying: 'I don't like it if you shot a short movie, why didn't you shot a long movie'. And there's no point in discussing the fact someone is criticizing that and agree and disagree and mention this as typical HL-behaviour etc. etc. etc.

I will add my word anyway.
I'm not here to have my ass licked. Nor to lick asses. Some are so interested by my footage that they wrote to me in private and offered me their own stuff in exchange. My ego is well, thank you. And I KNOW that there's not much so clear video shots of Sisters, so…
I just don't see the point of taking the time of writing you don't see the point of not filming entire show nor entire songs. You better like complete songs with bad pictures, bad mono compressed sound and the crowd screaming "yeaaaah" in the mike? No problem! If you're a real gentleman, you then only have to write something like "Hey, cool, here I found complete songs." or "You can listen to 'Summer' here".
I'll add that if I want to listen to Sisters songs, I listen to their studio albums. If I want to see Sisters, I buy a ticket, get early at the venue and stay near the stage.
In conclusion, I could be positive and interpret the words of the frustated guy by the fact he liked so much what he saw that he'd have like to see more.
Peace
P.S. : There's an Audio from 2008/2009 Tour that could suit the needs of those who actually want hear Sisters, not see Sisters.

martin,
the only thing that matters is that you are happy with it. who gives a rats ass what anybody else thinks. there's absolutly no sarcasm in me saying this. I've filmed 1000+ shows in my life (70% in 1080HD) and gotten plenty of harsh feedback for the way I shoot. Even though I respect other folks and there opinions all I have to say in return is "the feedback is appreciated but if you don't like what I do go look some place else because I sure as s**t won't change a thing".
Don't know if you know about this or even care, but you can upload HD content to www.vimeo.com and it looks REALLY good on there. very crisp and outstanding clarity.
cheers

The thing is people have different tastes and different purposes and different preferences and different states of mind, and sometimes criticism can be helpful...other times it's not. The point i was trying to make, in a manner rather reactionary, i admit, but it's more fun that way sometimes, that there's no reason to attack someone for not liking something - just as there's no reason to change anything on account of someone saying something.
You have obviously your reasons for shooting the way you do instead of how someone else would like you to shoot, and that's fine. But it's just as fine to _comment_, cause it might make you think about it, OR NOT. It's really all fine. (i would prefer your videos to be complete songs, but so what?)
i mean, i'ts happened to me a thousand times that i've done something not in the best way and a criticism has helped put me on track and think about it more - other times i just know the criticism isn't valid for the way/reason i do something and no way i'll change something cause other people would prefer it. (This i think is justification of criticism from other people, even if they have no right to tell you what to do...if justification is needed. But the point is that expression is usually a good thing.)
i have a feeling i'm not being very clear again
Anyway: "No laws, no limits!"

Thanks dummkopf, but it wasn't necessary. I already know what you're saying. If I film, it's for me first. But you'll agree that I don't need to upload my souvenirs on YouTube nor to publicized them here.
By the way, I appreciate the support I got here, but I didn't ask for it. And I understand why it came. Some people here share things, but most only consume what's shared. As fans, they appreciate and want it to continue. If some people begin saying "this thing is crap", "you make me loose my time", well the sharers may as well stop loosing their own.
And you seem to talk from a professional experience, which is not my case. Far from it.
Thanks for the link. I'll try it... maybe...
