Painted leather jackets are awesome, fact. You see them in abundance at Mish/Nephs/Sisters etc shows. Matt and Tim Legion both have awesome jackets as well, so I decided it was high time I painted my own (with plenty of help from a good friend - a wonderful lady called Natasha).
I'd love to see some photos of the jackets owned by other HL's... Here's mine:

@Maisey when you get toothache do you reach for the pliers or make an appointment?

Love the body electric one
Mine was done freehand (with a little help from my good friend masking tape) - so thw font is less Caslon Antique and more, as James put it, "Housestyle". I'm planning on doing at least a couple more, just because doing this one was such fun - any tips for painting perfect text?

sheets and some more bad copy before painting the jacket
that's all....or better you can use the decoration-way of work:
very fine sheets, paint it and using a needle sign really close the border of the draw
2nd step: put the sheet on the jacket and using a fine dust(oxid or similar) spread it on the sheet's hole.
put off the sheet and the draw should be transferred on the jacket....now the rest is simply.....use your colours and te jacket should be ready to wear on

Nice one! We want to do a Terminator jacket for a mate's birthday, I shall keep the needle hole technique in mind.
(Just to point out, most of the wonkiness of the text is due to slight creases/folds in the jacket at the time of photographing)

The technique of the masters! I've seen a collection of these used by Holbein for paintings.psichonaut wrote:training mate...Maisey wrote: any tips for painting perfect text?

a) This jacket has got me taken into a corner for "chat" by the police a grand total of twice sinse it's birth a week ago. This makes me feel most punk rock and thus a tad smug.
b) I'm sure other people have got some cool jackets, let's have a looksie!

I was planning on finishing up the one I've been working on for the Seattle gig, but then realised I wouldn't be able to wear it, 'cause the venue doesn't allow colours. Not that I'm a gangbanger ( ), but the design was intentionally created to look like colours...Ah, it's a long story, which I'll tell when it's finished and I have pictures to post.Maisey wrote:a) This jacket has got me taken into a corner for "chat" by the police a grand total of twice sinse it's birth a week ago. I have a finished variation on the previously-mentioned theme, but it's denim, and not painted (embroidered, studded, patched, pinned, etc), so it doesn't quite fit the parameters of the thread...b) I'm sure other people have got some cool jackets, let's have a looksie!

I wonder when little kids see Maisey's jacket do they ask mummy what does "f**k" mean or what does "gothic" mean?

Venue doesn't allow colours? Is it that goth? Or even that racist? Or that hateful of James Ray's vocals? (depending on interpretation of the term colours). And why does it make you a gangbanger?7anthea7 wrote:

I should have asked the last copper, who told me "he didn't want to have to explain that to his kids"nobumshouts wrote: I wonder when little kids see Maisey's jacket do they ask mummy what does "f**k" mean or what does "gothic" mean?

Mea culpa: language barrier...I meant "colours" in the sense of gang-specific clothing, with a gang's emblems/symbols/tags/whatever. You know: like a Hell's Angels jacket. So since mine is designed to resemble something like that (even though it's kind of a joke), El Corazón wouldn't allow it. It's generally a good policy - it keeps them from having bloody warfare (or shootings, like some clubs do) on the dance floor...Maisey wrote:Venue doesn't allow colours? Is it that goth? it was the wrong font, it is the wrong font, happy?
still is the "wrong font"*, just because some bootlegger decided what he had left 'would do' way back when, doesn't make it correct
*Lack of a Caslon Antique Letrasetâ„¢ sheet does not make it correct. Too cheap to buy a fresh sheet of Caslon A is the answer.
This only makes the bootleg correct but the scheme of things (the 'Big Picture') more muddied.
Fields of the Nefilim used Ameican Uncial on the 'Burning the Fields' ep and Caslon Antique on the 'Preacher Man' 12". The Sisters Of Mercy have been far more consistent in their graphic style via their official output.
Dalliances into Arial Narrow and surgical adjustments to Caslon Antique allowed, but then they haven't released anything new this century.
Something that gives me no joy, in fact makes me extremely annoyed. Creatives... eh..?

Is/was?? Huh? Wotchuonaboutwillis? I don't give a crap about the grammar.
I mentioned the bootleg to illustrate which font I used to those reading this page, the rights or wrongs of the bootleg font is irrelevant, I used it because I like it. By "nobody's ever commented that it was the "wrong" font" I meant "I'm surprised nobody's ever commented that I should've used caslon antique", which of course I shouldn't because it's my jacket and I can paint whatever I f**king well like on it.
I also didn't paint "rise and reverberate" at all because every other unoriginal bastard c.1985/86 were all using it.
