hey people.
I dont know if anything has been posted here about this.
BUT
Belgium has produced a new Sisters tribute band, the first official gig is not until Saturday (10e of Jan.) but yesterday I found myself at the first try-out.
And what can I say.
They are trying to recreate the 80s sound from F&L&A and before but are willing to include later songs as well, they will however not sound as we know them but as if they where indeed would have been if they where created a decade or more before.
And I can say they come very close to what they try to achieve, technically I can imagine it is very hard to recreate that sound but they are going the right way, singer R’s voice is very similar to Von’s so that is more than a benefit, guitar and bass players are up to the task and if they have some more action on the stage (again, it was the first try-out) they’ll be playing those songs backwards if they have too
First and future gigs are.
10 Jan 2009 - 20:00 Posthuis, Wuustwezel, Antwerpen
30 Jan 2009 - 20:00 Mussenakker, Meer, Antwerpen
1 Feb 2009 20:00 - De Zoeten Inval, Kalmthout, Antwerpen
Oh and most important, next to being very nice guys these people are very eager to play.
So I’m sure we’ll all have a chance to see them sooner or later.

Just a comment on the guitar sound. It's far too clean and thin, get some fuzz in there and you'll be well on they way. Going to need a second guitarist though. Certainly nothing wrong with the playing ability. The bass sounds almost spot on.
As for the vocals, well, there's only one person who will ever sound like Von and that's Von. I'm inclined to agree with JeffDub, in that there are places where the vocalist is obviously forcing his voice into places it doesn't want to go which is pushing him off key slightly, but otherwise he's good.

I don't necessarily agree with everything I think.

that is what I was thinking Ozpat!
and from what I heard live it seemed the singers voice sounds more like Von's when he is not forcing it, so I guess after some gigs when he gets into the drive of things it will become better.

Sounds good to me!
I think they could pull it off with one guitarist for the time being. If they're going for the F&L&A sound they should get hold of the Oberheim DMX drum machine samples (freely available online)

*Ahem* That's the same machine we used for Rosetta's live shows from around 1989 - 1990 and I think we used it on the 'An Eye for the Main Chance' album. The machine we inherited from the "Sisters" - turned out to be either the Pointer Sisters or Sister Sledge. The guy who gave it to us wasn't entirely sure.robertzombie wrote:Sounds good to me!

We then moved onto a Roland R5 (?) Rx5 (?) . I'm not sure, I was only tour manager/ band manager and the two Porl's guitar techs ! I left the plugging in of the effect/ drum machine rack to some one else

hmmm....when the girls first split in '85 every wide-brimmed hat owning nobody and his gargoyle came a-hunting a piece of the pie: who would have thought history would repeat itself on the demise of the smurphs?
