The Sisters in dresses?

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

I thought it was Manchester too.

Probably not the Haçienda gig, 28 Apr 83? Because wasn't Wayne in the band by the time they did the "dresses" gig?

So yeah, that Mc/r Uni gig. Maybe.

Hacienda 83 for definite; there's a bootleg from the following night where Von says something like "this is for everyone who tolerated us wearing dresses in the Hacienda last night" before Jolene.

Might have been others too.
If I told them once, I told them a hundred times to put 'Spinal Tap' first and 'Puppet Show' last.

But which gig did Andreas Bruhn wear that big Frankfurter Sausage suit?

And what show had Wayne on stiletto's with a purple light butt plug flashing?

When was the reggae version of More with Horace Andy naked on steel drums?

And when's dinner?

Nah, i've mentioned that one before. He's just wearing bangles and baubles as bracelets. Did he have a beard in early 1983 :innocent:

Well who else would be responsible?

Did he perform live at all during the beard year? Is the photo from a TV appearance perhaps? Or was there an earlier beard that has escaped my notice?

couldn't see that at work. it's from 1984, first appeared in the NME 26May. Lack of interest forbids me to confirm it was actually taken at the fan club gig

Bang on page 10 :notworthy:

Cliental at Manchester’s fashionable Hacienda niterie were aghast to find Leeds finest the Sisters of Mercy :notworthy: dressed in women clothing last Wednesday night. The Sisters who were there to support ya Gunne Clubbe, are well-known for their mastery of the black :innocent: arts and, indeed, rarely leave their northern lair until after dark. :)

“We decided someone had to lower the tone of the Hacienda, and why not us? mussed by big sister Andrew Eldritch, who was only recently released from hospital after having a steak removed from his heart. And so it came to pass that the polite middle-class burghers who frequent the Hacienda were forced to to put down there Thomas Mann novels and witness the distressing spectacle of Andrew Eldritch wearing “a very slinky black dress bassist Craig Adams sporting a filthy hippy wig, Steve Hillage bobble hat and banana spilt shades, and axe-murderer Benn Gunn modelling a short yellow dress, fishnets and suspenders, non of which was sufficient to hide his Y- Fronts.

I think the beard photo is taken from the Birmingham Tin Can warm up show shortly before they toured America in 1984. Where later in that year, he and Wayne bought cowboy hats in Las Vegas and thus started a new trend amongst the band, fans and tribute bands alike ..and the Nephilim !! (but that's another story for another day)
