Geez, wouldn't be easier to just post the official lyrics on the official website, or update the Chemist book with all of the new lyrics and take my money instead?
For a man who hates misinterpretation of his lyrical meanings, you would think he would prefer a fighting chance by providing (or singing with some volume and clarity) the new lyrics somewhere, somehow?

"Senseless steel" being weapons, this isn't too shoddy an option. Also, couldn't "throw a key" be tantamount to "push the button"?Jane Porter (1776-1850) in The Scottish Chiefs wrote:Having taken the dagger, he wreaked the exasperated vengeance of his malice upon the senseless steel, and breaking it asunder, threw the pieces into the air; while turning from Wallace with an affected disdain, he exclaimed to the shivered weapon, "You shall not betray me again!"
Arms, ver.X
Live your life in a parallax
Live a life through the lens
Live your life in a Reed Roman
For the mercy is men's
All senseless steel away
Throw a key and call her some day
Come feel the arms around you
I'm gonna be the arms around
I'm gonna be the arms around you
All there is, do you feel this real, come feel
Throw away the underclasses
For your love under law
Everybody got locked and loaded
With the hammer drawn
Throw senseless steel away
Throw a key and call her some day
Come feel the arms around you
I'm gonna be the arms around
I'm gonna be the arms around you
All there is, do you feel this real, come feel
edit: ditched the wheels
Nothing ventured, nothing lost
I now reckon it's All there is, do you feel this fear, come feel. I had toyed with it before but thought I was wrong. Changed my mind now.
Throw a key... I think it might be Draw.
(Going back to the Raith Rovers version, maybe it's a song about entertainment in Scotland, opening with Live your life in the Barowlands. )

Maybe the first time, but even that's a bit of a stretch. Definitely not the second. Maybe he switches from Scotland to Devonshire and sings "Torquay".stufarq wrote:Throw a key... I think it might be Draw.

"keen" seems to be a spell in Dungeons & Dragons. Is the lyricist an RPG fan, perchance?

This adds a bit of sense to the 'call' line, not to mention a fair amount of menace.http://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/SRD:Keen wrote:Keen: This ability doubles the threat range of a weapon.

So it's an advert for the UK Tourist Board?mugabe wrote:Maybe he switches from Scotland to Devonshire and sings "Torquay".
Surely we're in the realms of fantasy here. Although, if we're going down that road, the last line of the first verse could begin Live your life in a wraith. I didn't say it made sense.mugabe wrote:"keen" seems to be a spell in Dungeons & Dragons. Is the lyricist an RPG fan, perchance?
Do you think the frog impression at the end's significant?
Hi everyone. Long time no see.
I think some of the suggestions so far are not very Eldtrichian. Leaving out total guess work, this is what I hear:
Live your life in a parallax
Live a life through the lens
Live your life in a railroad bar
Or a Mercedes-Benz
All senses fade away now
?
Gonna feel the arms around you
I'm gonna feed the alms around
I'm gonna be the arms around you
?
Throw away the underclasses
Throw your love ? ? ? ?
Everybody got locked and loaded
With a hammer drawn
Those senses fade away now
?
Gonna feel the arms around you
I'm gonna feed the alms around
I'm gonna be the arms around you
?
... But, what do I know?

Very plausible. I thought he was singing something to the effect of "vague" in Berlin, but "wraith" would fit both versions. Also, it's not as obscure as the Reed reference.stufarq wrote:Surely we're in the realms of fantasy here. Probably so. At first I didn't think there was one in the Berlin clip, but there seems to be.stufarq wrote: Do you think the frog impression at the end's significant?

Um, I was actually joking there. I don't think he's singing about D&D.mugabe wrote:Very plausible. Sorry, but it doesn't sound like that at all.Mr. Wah wrote:Live your life in a railroad bar
But I'm now thinking that the next line could be Former mercy dispense (Fallen? Foreign?)
The slurred diction is probably down to being drunk, which just means he's burping at the end.mugabe wrote:Probably so. At first I didn't think there was one in the Berlin clip, but there seems to be.stufarq wrote: Do you think the frog impression at the end's significant?
Or farting.Izzy HaveMercy wrote:"Don't need these farts around me"
Yes!Wrecker wrote:All there is to feel is fear, come feel
I still think the second line of the chorus has "feel" - only the third line has "be".

Oh. Well, I googled "senseless steel", which I thought it sounded like, and got weapons-related results. Then I googled "throw keen", which I thought it sounded like, and got weapons-related results. For a song tentatively named "Arms", martial suggestions are good suggestions in my book.stufarq wrote:Um, I was actually joking there. Funnily, it sounds a bit like "Froschhhh" in Berlin and "Frog" in Dresden.stufarq wrote:The slurred diction is probably down to being drunk, which just means he's burping at the end.mugabe wrote:Probably so. IIRC now, "feel" is only in the second line of the chorus the second time in Dresden, which I put down as Eldritch messing up (probably from being drunk, one of us).stufarq wrote:I still think the second line of the chorus has "feel" - only the third line has "be".

So, I was at Wiesbaden tonight. Arms starts and Von is standing 2m in front of me. His vocal monitor is in front of me and I've heard every lyric crystal clear all night. I'm ready to do the listening and lip reading bit.
We get to lines 3 & 4 of the first verse and what does he do? Puts his hand over his microphone/mouth and mumbles. At other key points of contention, he was like a ventriloquist. No lip movement but 'sounds' coming out.
I've therefore come to the conclusion that the lyrics are only half-written ...and he's waiting for Mugabe to finish it for him.

What a season
to be beautiful
without a reason

The fact that he's singing slightly different lyrics in each recording might mean that that's a serious possibility.Johnny Rev 7.0 wrote:I've therefore come to the conclusion that the lyrics are only half-written
Yeah, I've been thinking that too. Preferably one where he's completely sober and singing into the microphone.mugabe wrote:We need new blood. Isn't it time a new recording appeared, btw?
