Money, riders and the universe

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

So I was wondering if Ben and Chris is counted as full Sisters members or if they are hired musicians. In other words, when on tour (since that is the only place where Sisters exists) do they get paid the same amount as Von and do they get an equal share in merchandise. Or is it more like Von 50% and Chris and Ben 25 each.
Of course no one knows this, but it is an interesting thought.

And another thing, I was sitting looking through riders on The Smoking gun and wondered if anyone had seen a Sisters rider. I think that would be really interesting to see.

Anyway, that was my thought of the day.

Or is that the lead singer? :D
If I told them once, I told them a hundred times to put 'Spinal Tap' first and 'Puppet Show' last.

So then they are technically just hired musicians?

To discuss money is rude, but judging by their enthusiasm both on stage and off stage it can't be bad, eh?
As for my understanding, the question whether they are full Sisters members or not has another factor to it, other than money. It's the side-projects that they have (well, "side-projects" is a totally wrong word on second thoughts, I should rather say "main projects" maybe). Look - they both have their own bands and gigs and websites and fans and stuff... It obviously is a good thing, because they are independent and unique human beings who can do whatever artistic activity they wish to do - but if they have their own bands going on outside The Sisters, then surely some part of their attention, time, devotion, emotional attachment, and creative force (whether it's 5 or 50 or 95% I can't assess, obviously), is devoted to that other bands. In such a case, can we say that they are Full Sisters Members?
:?
Oh well. Wheteher the answer is yes or no, they fit in perfectly. :D

but they do so much more than merely turn up and play.

simon, chris & ben are all involved in picking the setlists, suggesting ideas for changes to songs (and now that they've settled in and know more of the back catalogue we're all seeing the benefit of that) & writing new material, as well as helping the day to day organisational stuff - PR, bookings etc

the band hierarchy is a let less rigid and top-down than it used to be a couple of years ago and is definitely becoming more of a democracy.

Probably, but they don't act like what I have in mind when I'm thinking about "hired musicians". I think they are very in to the "project TSOM" and don't forget how much they care about the fanbase - even in their spare time.

Damn straight. And Himself knows it. They've pumped more energy into the catalogue than has been seen in...way too long.

Absolutely - I exchanged a few Myspace messages with Ben right before and after the most recent show I went to, he's incredibly sweet and really does care for the fans. He even put me on the guest list, even though I already had tickets - unfortunately I couldn't take advantage of it as I couldn't get anyone else to come along on such a short notice. After the show I sent a message saying great show and all that, and I made sure to tell him that TSOM are something very special to me, and that I was glad that he and Chris were both a part of it.

Decent boys both of them, especially Ben IMO, though I don't like their backing vocals.

Andrew's contract rider provides for two litres of vodka and two litres of something to put in it. Where available, this would be Absolut Vodka and cranberry juice. The bottle contains an equal mixture of the two.
Not much info, I know, and probably out of date by several centuries but at least it's something.

Simon is included as well? Brilliant. Let's see if he can get Rosie in to do backing vocals. :D

one happy side-effect of the new guys helping with this is that they are keen to plunder the back catalogue for new & interesting stuff to play.

and given ben's & chris' laudable 'meet the fans' approach, a wise person could exploit their good nature to plant seeds about their favourite songs to bring back :innocent:

thus, after a lengthy chat with chris at the berlin aftershow, i'm expecting valentine and nine while nine to get a thrashing sometime soon ;)

fingers crossed ;)

I know I mentioned Body Electric and Kiss the Carpet to Ben in a message during the US tour - I think Ben and Chris would tear them up (that's a good thing, btw) and I would love to hear it. And as soon as I heard they had played Floorshow (the day AFTER I saw them) I sent him a message saying how great it was that they pulled it out. A little encouragement, I figured. :D
