Far Parade

Got any interesting thoughts on a set of lyrics? Any that don't involve the word "indeed"? Find yourself struggling to decipher all those obtuse references Von makes? Read "1959 And All That" and still no clearer? Nope, us neither. Postcards found lying in a skip around the back of the Chemists can be found here... Don't say you weren't warned.

In before a million incorrect interpretations, and/or looking too deeply into it.

just in case they disappear:

Had a sense it couldn't last
Watched the wonder wander past
Held it briefly, set it free
There is a space above me

Everything will come and go
There is a thing that I don't know
Wouldn't wish it otherwise but
No-one reads the book of lies and
No-one looks into the void as anything but paranoid and
Anything that you would be will
Swerve and hurt eventually

And I'm ungood if I can't shout
Without the vowels or the label out
Escorted from my desk
Unable to unheed

From heroine to heroin
Cash out and head on in to
Burlesque and snake-oil charm
Flashing lights and fakir calm
Shine your knives and sinecures
Red-top wives and feckless poor
As ye sow so shall ye find your
Car is burning at the mine

Decent men and women form a line and dance in time - it's a far parade
The ghost of war, the painted whore, dial up one nine one four - it's a far parade
Distant men and women form a line and dance in time - it's a far parade
Everything will come and go, there is a thing that I don't know - it's a far parade
Distant men and women form a line and dance in time - far parade
Decent men and women form a line and dance in time - far parade

:D Feck the lyrics, I'll read into them later, what matters is that the sick leave news is no more there, and there is a sign of life - so hopefully all's going to go according to the schedule now. :D

Edit:
Ah, so RAPE room it was. Ooooooh, wow.

Now that sounds like the Von we all know and love...

Um, yeah. Not merely an update to the site, but actual new lyrics. I'm trying not to read too much into this...but it's difficult to restrain myself.

My current estimate is that it includes life, universe and all the rest.

always liked it bitter ... and didn't feel better (by the way) ...
that's why I'm here, now ...

So, I'm pleased to see this happen,
love this song already and look forward to the music ...

Now that I read it from begining to end, I think it's rather beautiful. :)

I have no idea what "one nine one four" is, though.

1914 - start of World War 1.

That or a well placed diversion :?;)

Yes, World War I - and many didn't return from it ...

... sort of, as it seems to me now ...

I'm hearing echoes of DI-1 9026 in the meter, too...

Probably coincidental.

Edit: Could also be the postcode of an imaginary town in Brandenburg :innocent:

one nine (i being the 9th letter) one four (d being 4th letter) you mean?
Naaaaaaah. Nowhere near.
As with the rest, verse measures don't even remotely match or anything.

I mean the rhythm of the two songs lines up in my head when I read it to myself. Nothing more, nothing less ;)

Well you know, the existence of "Slept" was mentioned in an interview quite some time before it actually appeared on stage. The explanation of "Never Land" was given quite some time before we got to hear the full version. It could be similar with "Far Parade": we may hear it live soon, we might not. One thing that interests me is when "Far Parade" was written: very recently, or some time ago?
