If you have your DVD player region-free it should play ok I guess. If not then it probably won't.
If this is a Japanese DVD then I would have thought it would be PAL and play ok.

it says its region 2, and my player (obviously) is region 2... so that should be ok. its just the pal/ntsc thing that confuses me i know videos suffer from pal/ntsc incompatiblity but i didnt know that dvd players did.CellThree wrote:If you have your DVD player region-free it should play ok I guess. there's no "friendly" region hack for my player either - it would need a mod chip! so i'll let the warranty run out first before i go doing owt dodgy to it...

I think you need to check if your TV will display in NTSC format. If not then the picture will probably be in black and white.
To not know and to ask a question is a moment of embarrassment; to not know and not ask is a lifetime of shame.

*DVD was one technology that I dived into at the deep end when it had only been out for a few months, no one said there would be Region issues, Bastids! Next time I invest in some new gadget, I want a guarantee that this is the last thing they will invent.

Region 2 is UK anyway and Region 0 is basically Region Free. Any DVD player in the world can play them. unless they're broken of course.
The next gen of DVD type things has already raised its ugly head out of the Land of the Rising Sun. It is called Blue something or other. Holds a huge amount more data on the disc than a DVD and is of course more shiny and new than the old a familiar DVD format. I guess we'll see it out commercially in another few years...
