The Parisiennes are complete stick up arses ( talk about inferiority complex. 'Later on' as they say around these parts ) . The people in the South of France are a different kettle of fish and they are people I/ We have a lot of time for. It's our plan to go and live on the French Atlantic coast one day
Ahem . Sorry is that a bit too involved was I supposed to say something like "errr they smell.."

Each to their own - Mrs Goth worked and lived in Paris for a few years and can agree with your views outright!

I'd like to add to this debate by saying that I really like 'Asterix' books
and I once saw a fantastic French film called 'Maitresse'

Gotta like their wine. And there are some great french films like Night on Earth, Nikkita and Taxi.
To not know and to ask a question is a moment of embarrassment; to not know and not ask is a lifetime of shame.
Agreed that there a great French Filmssnubnoseuk wrote:Gotta like their wine. And there are some great french films like Night on Earth, Nikkita and Taxi.
Their "Wine" on the other hand IMHO is Pants! Try "OZ" instead

My very limited experience of the French would also appear to paint them as stubborn, unhelpful, condescending and evasive. This is an impression many visitors get, and we can relate it most meaningfully, in many instances, to a French dislike of having to speak a tongue which decidedly won the imperialist language war, when we, the imperialist Anglophones, feel no need to speak French. I have no opinions about their use of soap, or lack thereof. I have not met very many Froggies, so the above is not in the least scientific. I suspect it also depends on what you're looking for, and what your expectations are. If you believed their cinema, you would suppose that the French have always done a very fine line in unpredictable, pouting, kittenish and sultry femmes fatale. Which is very nice, if that's what you like. I remember a certain erstwhile Francophobe, Mr E, having a soft spot for Catherine Deneuve. In my own teenage years, I will confess a certain softness of heart towards Beatrice Dalle. Vive la difference, I say...

I don't think French canadians should be included in this.
BAD: The frog I shared a flat with, Partick Vierra, their attitude (and to hygene), Sasha Distelle, their diet.
GOOD: Monica Belluci, Vincent Cassel, Eric Cantona, Wine.
Vertict: Guilty

It's Monica Bellucci and she's italian. La Haine is a great film, Cantona's style probably fitted the English game more then anything, which probably says more about the Premiership at the time then his abilities. And wine is made in various countries and can hardly be considered French in origin. Superieur, yes.Steve303 wrote:BAD: The frog I shared a flat with, Partick Vierra, their attitude (and to hygene), Sasha Distelle, their diet.

Also it's Patrick Vieira, he's born in Senegal and must be one of the greatest French footballers after Tigana. And I'd wish I would be as well preserved as Distel at his age (which probably says something about diet & hygiene):

I was under the impression that we were entitled to our own opinions. Those expressed in my previous post were my opinion.
I'm well aware of all the points you made. You may like Patrick Vierra, you may dislike Cantona. Whichever, I don't care. Just don't tell me what I can and can't think.
Thank you.

Did I say anything about you having or not having any opinions? I think not. I might consider them to be rather feeble, but thought it better to stick to the facts. Which I did.Steve303 wrote:I was under the impression that we were entitled to our own opinions.

What exactly is feeble about me not liking Patrick Vierra or/and liking Eric Cantona and French wine.Karst wrote:Did I say anything about you having or not having any opinions? I think not. calm down, there's nothing feeble about any of the likes or disliked you have expressed.
