FAVOURITE SISTERS LYRIC

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

No doubt this has been done before but thought I'd run it up the flagpole (as Lemmy once said).

Come on then.

I've had trouble with mine. Possibly "Words are just dust, in deserts of sound."

I was talking more specifics, rather than whole songs. Like the things that send a shiver down your spine. Which bit of Valentine?

I'll go for:

"Such things I hear, they don't make sense
I don't see much evidence."

Whether it is supposed to or not, to me it sums up politics rather well.

"Give me something fast".

Because it's very moving and also very clever as it can read a few ways. 8)

I have to agree with QB as there are so many to choose from but Neverland ( a fragment) is a top choice as well Blast 8)

My personal gems - there are many !

My top one is from FLOOD II

"Like a million voices call my name,
Like a million voices calling,
Not now, not never again"

I always figured these words to mean 'No Tour Now' but there 'Will Be' in the future, which did turn out to be the case!

It would appear, that at the time, VON did have a "Masterplan" - shame it would appear to have gone off the rails since 1993!

I agree about Neverland.
it is the ultimate Sisters lyric.

simple but beautiful, straightforward but enigmatic (?!)

I had a face on the mirror
I had a hand on the gun
I had a place in the sun and a
Ticket to syria

I had everything within my reach
I had money and stuff
Each and every call
Too much but never enough
Tear it up and watch it fall

it sends shivers up my spine just thinking about it.

it's also a fantastic 'closing' track (though the effect is ruined a bit by the fact that WEA plonked 'Torch' and 'Colours' on the end of Floodland.)

Kiss The Carpet's a goodie too. In fact, Von really outdid himself on all of The Reptile House.
If I told them once, I told them a hundred times to put 'Spinal Tap' first and 'Puppet Show' last.
