Swine flu

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

So lets chart the progress of the aporkalypse - how many of you have been struck down by swine flu so far?

That'd be me for starters.

I apparently am included as well. I hardly believe myself I'm sick until I get up and try to do anything.
I guess all the panic is out off place with that infect.
For a flu, it shows an extremely low mortallity rate.

Crossing my figers I wont get it, hate being sick. And my boss wont be able to find someone to fill in for me, with my luck.

Joking aside, I worry about the start of the new University year in September/October. Hundreds of thousands of people moving around the country...

Yeah but there's bound to be some already infected who then transmit it to people in their college towns. And I don't know if you've noticed, but there's quite a lot of students in Leeds. :P

Also, lecturers might be quite prone to catching it off their students, which puts Kerry at risk.

There has been government discussions about delaying the start of term BUT that would cost far too much.

We had two confirmed cases the last week of term. LEA advice was not to shut the school - fair enough because the little 'swines' had been in school the days before and would have already merrily infected us all I suppose.

Still fighting fit here - apart from mi toes - ooooh I am suffering.

Alas, true, they are the shallow lifeblood of our fair metropolis - where would our sports bars, r'n'b clubs and Wilkinsons be without them? Not long before I'll be a shamless hypocrite though...

Can she teach via videolink? Or with a gas-mask?

Two casualties at the Ministry, including the girl who sits opposite. The icy hand of, er, mildly annoying illness, is creeping ever closer!

Personally, I'll be taking my chances with the swine flu rather than any half-tested vaccine the government tries to foist on the public.

Cynicism and paranoia have got me to the ripe old age of thirty-seven.

Not just cynicism and paranoia, but also pure old statistics. Better swine flu than standard flu that nobody mentions.

Um why? The main difference is that we haven't had time to build up any resistance to swine flu.

And "standard" flu gets mentioned quite a lot, usually with the statistics for the numbers who died in the last epidemic or the fact that current swine flu figures are pretty much on a par with average December flu cases.
