Get bent...

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

i think it's the printer's fault, not mac's, as couldn't get it installed on either of our other comps. arse.

Should be pretty straight forward. Syst prefs, print and fax, click the plus and it ought to show up right away!

it isn't, though. have installed from disc, it gets to 'connection' then can't find the printer at all. there's nothing there.

are you connecting to the printer via a usb cable or over a network?

and if it's the network is the printer connected to your network using using wifi or a network cable into your router?

wifi network printers can be a bit twitchy in my experience.

also, when you get to here, click the + button:

what do you see in the following screen?

you should just select the printer from the list and click ADD :|

what make/model printer is it?

wifi printers can be tricky because there's more moving parts to them, regardless of if its mac or pc

first off you need to establish that your printer is attached your wifi network.

that usually involves plugging it in with a network cable first to get it on your network and get it an ip address. then you will probably be able to browse to it's ip address and see some kind of admin interface. you shoud then be able to use that to enter the settings for your wifi network.

then you should be able to unplug the printer's network cable and it will be there via wifi.

if you see what i mean.

your printer should have instructions for that...

once your printer is appearing on your wifi network it will be much easier to connect to it :D

wifi printers are a pain in the arse tbh ;)

IIRC, if you see a setting on the printer's admin interface relating to the "appletalk" or the "bonjour" protocols, turn them on. it will make it easier for the mac to talk to the printer ;)
