I-Know-A-Lot-About_The-Sisters (Xmas Comp)

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

Why not, first prize might even be good

-------------------------------------------------------

a) which publication did this competition's name first appear in and in reference to what?

b) what film did the band's name originate from?

c) which actor mentioned the 'merciful release' later used as the label?

d) which bands was Patricia in previous to the sisters? (hint: four of them)

e) which band did Tim B. not quite get to join?

f) who was the 'real' Bax?

g) name three 'poems' referenced by Eldritch (and the songs in which they occur) that can be recognised as originating with TS Eliot?

h) Jon Langford penned two 'tributes' to Von, what are they called?

i) What does CNT stand for, and what was that in reference to originally?

j) when did the band sign to WEA year/month and when did they break away year/month?

k) where according to rumour did the black hat come from and how much was it?

l) according to Eldritch, which organization 'benefited' from the sisters first gig?

m) what email addy would one use to get in touch with the sisters?

n) where did Vons drum kit come from?

o) where does Von allege to write his best songs?

p) on what occasion did Eldritch first take his glasses off for the fans?

q) what did Eldritch tell the press he bought with the proceeds of the sale of the pre-WEA back catalogue?

r) who was the England cricket captain in 1965 (hint the joke is based in the 70's) ?

s) one individual only played live with the sisters once back in 1981 who was he and what did he play (not Jon Langford)

t) why did Mr Andrew Heartland sell his collection and where did most of it end up?

go on dare you, have a go ;D

Wow! I'll have a go - but will you be publishing the answers afterwards?

I think my score may well end up at the "miserable" end of the scale. Like being back at school. Must try harder. Oh my god, here comes another flashback!

I know three, off the top of my head.

Good list, pib! I can imagine you as a particularly-trollied Paxman, bellowing at cowering Heartland nerds, etc. etc.

7, possibly 8 if it is what I think it is (and I'm guessing it's probably not).

Love the way most of these seem to have an obvious answer that's not actually correct.
If I told them once, I told them a hundred times to put 'Spinal Tap' first and 'Puppet Show' last.

Two and three halves, although I could probably get to about 11 with a little research. The rest made my brains dribble out through my ears.
Any more of that and we'll be round your front door with the quick-setting whitewash and the shaved monkey.

get to know all that much about The Sisters until I joined here ... :( :  :  : ...

So what's the first prize? A candle-lit supper with Von I assume, given the fact that probably nobody got all the answers right?
